I took a debit card and a credit card as back up
As for insurance south of the border we were told along the way that it is not worth the paper it's written on!
Had difficulty finding anywhere that would short term insurance and most places they just lock the two parties involved till one admits liability!
I have to admit we just winged it after the states and the next place we got some was Columbia as we heard their jails are not very nice!!
Have a great trip hope to getting back there myself soon.

Understand what you saying..Please tell me can i buy insurance on Mexican border? its expense on border ? or just without insurance in in mexico hahah..

Was not any on offer when we crossed the border the guy was asleep in his office! Mexicans do t you just love them!

If the weather is really shite for camping, we used the Bear paw cabins which are clean and comfy. Also eat at Fast Eddie's on the main drag through Tok. Best place in town and a great steak sandwich with potato salad

If you don't take their transit insurance which I'm guessing is for the flight over, you should still be covered with standard insurance by the carrier I would have thought. It's worth checking but the cover will be very minimal and full of get outs.
