I wouldn't mind running another of these, later in the year.

Subject to demand and hotels we could do, either:

Over on a late afternoon train, with a hotel on Friday night say about 30 miles from Calais.

A full day's ride on Saturday, to somewhere suitable, say not much further than 200 miles.

Hotel Saturday night.

Sunday, ride back to home, via a late afternoon train.

=====

OR

Early train Saturday morning.

A full day's ride to somewhere suitable.... 200 miles ish.

Back home, Sunday. Late afternoon train.

=====

I am conscious that some bods come a fair distance just to get to the train, so going over late afternoon on Friday may suit them?

=====

Please ping up interest here, saying which you prefer. I will then set about finding us somewhere to stay.

Please also ping up if you are happy to share a twin room, as it makes hotel bookings much easier.

Staying in? I hope privately owned Logis type hotels. If not, it will be an Ibis type thing.

Maximum eight bikes (subject to room availability). Pillions welcome (subject to rooms etc).

Richard

PS Dates will depend on the start of the rugby season fixtures for 'quins, a couple of other jaunts I am on, and a bit on the hotels' availability. As soon as I know, you'll know.

Where to: Normandy, Belgium, Somme battlefields???>.... Somehwere like that, I guess.

Hello Richard,
It will come as no surprise that Pauline would be up for this, with option 1 as first choice, with myself coming along as well, of course. If places are available.

Thanks
David

Hi Richard,

Me and the venerable Mrs brenchlyhibs would be interested in this late wander. We live <1hr from Cheriton so opt 2 preferred, but not overly fussed. One double room (en-suite of course).

Not really beginners so we'll move aside if enough newbies pitch up for this one.

Thanks,
Andy

Pencil me in for this Richard but as Andy says if over subscribed I will stand aside as I am not a beginer.Option 1 or 2 (the first hotel last weekend was rather nice though!!) :beerjug:

Bloody Hooligans, it's a beginner's weekend for Christ's sake.

Pencil me+1 in for this one Richard :augie

Always good to have some familiar faces along....:thumb2

I thought that another bash down to Normandy might be OK, perhaps?

The hotel at Villerville was fine but I would like to think about trying one other, either in Arromanches-les-Bains or in Deauville to use as a base for a possible longer 'Wander' in 2013 or 2014. I want to have a look at Deauville only as it is a reasonably large town which sometimes makes things a bit more interesting if everyone is going to be there for a few nights.

Arromanches is nicely central for the 'invasion route' sites, something I want to expand on for a future 'Wander' too.

Deauville is obviously a bit closer, but Arromanches is not much further. We made good time coming back from Villerville to Calais in the rain, so Arromanches should be OK, too.

If nobody has any great objections, let's go to Normandy, going over on a train late Friday afternoon (date and time TBA). We could stay at the Wierre-Effroy farm again, setting off at 09:30 on Saturday to stay in Deaville or maybe 09:00 if we go to Arromanches.

Anyone who lives close to the Chunnel could certainly get to Wierre-Effroy (or somewhere close to) by 09:00 jumping on a train at about 06:45 if they wanted to join us on Saturday morning. We could work out where to meet without too much hassle, I'm sure. The rendezvous with Darkhorse Dave worked out pretty well to the minute and that was over 100 miles away.

I have two possible hotels in mind for Saturday night:

in Deauville: http://www.letrophee.com/

in Arromanches: http://reservation-hotel.logishotel...f23876624ddb5d9ca84d5f&custid=12&hotelid=9191

In Wierre-Effroy, it's http://www.fermeduvert.com/

Normandy sounds good, loads to see down there. Thanks for Thursday's get together, nice walk back over the bridge too :thumb2

At the moment I can't find a spare date in the diary.

What I might suggest is to do what we did last year. Keep an eye on the weather and if a good opportunity presents itself, scuttle over.

Last year we went over the weekend of 11 November, which wasn't bad.

How about a ride to Bouillon from 28-30 September?

Rooms are cheap at the Poste :rob

Your just trying to give my birthday champaigne away you aint ya :rob

Trying to help you out :rob

If they all come along then it will look to the locals that you have lots of mates :D :aidan

Hello everyone.

Sorry to leave you all dangling.

I would still like to do something before the end of the year but really am struggling to find some dates that work. But, I haven't given up the idea.

Watch this space.

Richard
