I sold my xchallenge a few years ago to get a G450x, its a great bike but its is limited in its flexibility i.e it a pain in the arse on the road! How does the Sertao compare with the xchallenge, I go green laning on some reasonably challenging lanes and want a bike that can do that and also taken me and my tent on longer trip to Wales etc... If anyone uses their Sertao properly off road it would be great to heear your comments.

Funnily enough, I was looking at a Sertao only yesterday and asking myself if it was 'like' or 'better' than my XC?
Having been on the trails with folk riding 650GS single cyls, I could see the Sertao was still a 650GS similar to the Dakar, the plastics have weak points that would detonate should they come in contact with anything hard, ie, the ground.
At the same Motorrad dealer was a Husky 650 Terra, and although it was an ABS version, ie, 17" rear wheel, it looked closeer to the XC than the Sertao. And I guess with a few mods and a little weight shaving, it could be a good 'new' replacement, especially that a huge price cut has been announced recently.......

I had a 650 dakar which is a sertao with the old plastics. They are mechanically exactly the same.
The Dakar was a great tool for the lanes, but it suffered poor ground clearance (hence I fitted WP forks and was fortunate enough to aquire a works alloy swingarm and wp shock along with 18" rear wheel). The changes transformed the bike, but it was stil a weighty beast.

If I were to do it again and look for a road/off roader with 50/50 in mind, I'd be in the 690 KTM camp with a dakar style fairing. It'd be way quicker than the Sertao and far more capable off road.

The Sertao/Dakar is a fantastic machine, but harder lanes highlight it's weak suspension and weight.
