:spitfire Had my bike serviced at Motorrad central glasgow today and i left the place a bit bemused i was told that the service would cost around £250-70 but was left dumb founded when hit with a bill of £445.

The pic below shows what was done give me a shout and tell me what you think that would be great

Looks like it's the labour for the main part. It must have been about 5 hours?
My guess would be the bleeding of the ABS circuit?

For your own good mate post another picture with out your reg, chassis number, mileage, date of registration and proof of when and where it was serviced on it.

:blast

i would be more worried about a 2005 bike with only 22743 miles on the clock, has it been wound back :augie

I bought the bike in Dec 07 i am hoping to put in the miles on what is a great machine.

I think there's a list of things to be replaced after 2yrs as part of the 'annual inspection'. Brake bleeding on the ABS bikes is a bit involved hence the charge. They probably quoted you for a 24k service without annual inspection.

Could have been worse..........you might have needed some pads and a rear disc as well :)

Put a good will claim in on the disc. Worth a punt. I got one at 18k.

I always try and forget the cost and ride the fekker. OK until the missus looks at the bank statements :D

The thing that stands out to me is £102 to change the spark plugs.....Not including the plugs! TOTAL £131.36....... Do you have something like engine bars and tourtech style cylinder guards? My dealer has told me to remove them for the next service or I'll be charged the labour to remove and re-fit.

Just had mine serviced, dealer quoted me £225, but was £275 because I ripped a fewbits off and bent some others while off-roading:augie

Had my 24k service a couple of months ago. Similar cost to yours apart from the Spark plug change. I think they have made a mistake with yours. I was charged 2 units - £13.25 ex VAT.

He was only charged 2 time units.

£39.27 plus vat, where do you get £131.36

Mis-read the bill, you are correct and I am humbled.

Are you saying he was charged £102 for the bleeding? My service last week, I was only charged 4 time units = £17.25 for "Replacing brake fuild in entire ABS integral", I would assume that includes bleeding..

FWIW the 24k service + annual inspection cost me £290 on the RT earlier this month (inc pick up and return). The tupperware removal obviously adds a bit. They gave me a quote and stuck to it. Did not have the ABS bleed though which seems to be the majority of the difference.

Your own fault if the warranty was up (unless you got another year as BMW AUB)

If it's out of warranty, go an independant and use a BMW Service kit from Motorwrks or DIY (except ABS system)

Once you're out of warranty, what's the point in paying for the dealer stamp?? - At least that's the conclusion I came to after paying a bill similar to yours! Half the items on that list in the Annual Inspection are 'Check' items, ie if there's anything wrong, you probably already know about it - so would either fix it yourself or take it in as a specific repair. If the dealer fixes them as part of the service, they're gonna charge you extra to put right anyway..so you paying them to do things like look at your brake pads :blast!

Sounds like if you're ok to do the rear disk & pads, you will be ok with the other service items.

Get a copy of Jim Von Baden's DVD - it's simple and you don't need to spend a fortune on tools, maybe £100-£150 incl a torque wrench and if you invest in a twinmax as well.

Here's a couple of links I found useful.

Sparky I will let you off this time.

Yes he has been charged £102 for labour code 3400090. I will check on Tuesday to see what the same service would have cost at our place as I STILL HAVE HIS MILAGE, CHASSIS NUMBER, REG NUMBER AND DATE OF REGISTRATION.

A good point made here, if you (glowing splint) were originaly quoted a price were you informed of the extra work that was needed before you signed the job card authorising the work, or were you just presented with a bill when the work was complete?

If it is the latter one I would be asking for a refund of the difference.
