Service indicator reset?

Hi all

I have a question on R1200Gs that I hope someone may be able to help me with.

I had the bike serviced back in 2/10/09 by a non-official BMW workshop - Motoscot (found him on this site - fantastic service and great job!). The mileage was 6341.

The bike has just done 9300 miles, and the "Service" warning alert has come on on the LCD screen. It says Service 10/5. Looking in the service book, the service date at the BMW dealer I bought the bike from was 10/5 - so I guess the bike thinks it has not been serviced for 12 months hence the warning indicator comes on. I'm assuming Motoscot didn't reset it.

The bike will actually be due for service either on 2/10/10 or 12,341 miles.

Does anyone know how I reset the service indicator so it doesn't display the "Service" message. The manual just says consult a specialist service agent, preferably a BMW agent.

Any help greatly appreciated.

Andy

Take it to the dealer where you bought it from, I'm sure they would gladly reset it.....

....for the price of a 6,000 mile service! :augie

.....but seriously....I've no idea, but I'm sure your dealer would do it for you, even if not happy that they're not getting your service custom.

You need to reset it using either a BMW GT1 computer costing around £5000 to buy, or invest in a GS-911 unit from Hexcode.co.za for around the £300 mark IIRC.

I have the GS911 and it is a very good piece of kit for the money if you intend owning your GS or any other BMW long-term.

Surely 'Motoscot' has the means to log in and reset your bikes service reminder in the ECU, why not speak to him ?

As above re. the resetting. But did the independent do the "annual service"? e.g. if the bike is 2yrs old its due a brake fluid change even if it hasn't done 12k

Have found on my 1200GSA that disconnecting the battery seems to reset the Service reminder from the "mileage coundown" to the basic 12 months from last service reminder. I found this out after the 12K service when, after disconnecting the battery, the service reminder (12 months from last one) comes on for a few seconds each time with the ignition. A bit annoying but have got used to ignoring it now.
