I`ve just ordered the bits to do a 2 yr service and paid 47 pence for a washer. Ok I can be a bit tight but I`m sure ther`s a cheaper source for these basic items. Anyone care to share?

I suspect that you paid 1p for the washer and 46p for the bag it came in!

:D

PS I've just done a service - but I didn't use any 47p washers - where does it go?

Oil drain and filler plugs...Yes I know they often come with a kit but I did`nt need the fuel and air filters.

Suspected as much 'cos they're not really washers are they. A washer being . . .

"a perforated annular disc or flattened ring of metal placed between two surfaces subject to rotative friction, to relieve friction and prevent lateral motion and unsteadiness".

However, since 1850 the OED has noted the use of "washer" to describe . . .

"an annular disc of leather, rubber, or other material placed between the flanges of abutting water pipes, beneath the plunger of a screw-down water-tap, etc. to prevent leakage"

And I always thought a washer was somebody who cleaned the bike for you. Or is that a scrubber? Oh no, according to the OED a scrubber is . . .

Good having the entire 20-volume OED on your laptop init !!!

now wots an OED;) and how do you get it on a laptop

A lisdexic could find it usefull. Got a dodgy CD for me?

G.......

No doubt A CD is just another flaming "an annular disc of " unless of course the application or use of the thing is relevant. I'm off now to eat a few washers or are they polo mints. Oh no they must be annular discs of mint.

The fact that Greg riding round on a bike without a ring piece obliges you to consult your dictionary, worries me Simon?
Did you seek the answer to his problem or were you merely demonstrating that you can balance 20 volumes on your lap top - Bindon could allegedly do it with 12 beer jugs?
