I decided to brave the elements today and head for the Log Cabin Hotel at Kirkmichael (North of Blairgowrie).

I checked the Forth Road Bridge web site - cloced to double decker busses - so that's OK then.

Got turned back at the FRB - had to take the A9 to Perth. However with the wind behind me it was a good run.

Had lunch with "Bumble Bee" Ron, then went to Pitlochry for fuel and on to Aberfeldy and the East end of Loch Tay. Up the very steep gravelly track to Glen Quaich and on to Amulree.

By-passed Crief, via the Famous Grous distillery (No, I didn't stop) and along the A85 to Lochearnhead.

Then down the A84 / M9 and home.

Very wet (and dark), riding gear is drying out now.

This was Glen Quaich, with Loch Freuchie in the distance. Normally a wonderful view, but not today. Wind was so strong I couldn't hold the camera steady.

Anyone else been out and about ?

I had a welcome visit from Stumpy today. He was on his way back to West Lothian from the Log Cabin weekend. I take it that you missed the Club crew then Voyager?

I must confess that for once I wasn't envious of anyone being out on 2 wheels today.

well guys they say it's the thought that counts and I thought about going out, even managed to roll the bike out the garage but it looked so clean and it seemed such a shame to get it dirty I decided to roll it back in and go for a beer instead....maybe next week......

I thought that there was something on at the Log Cabin this weekend - apart from the regular BMW Club monthly meeting.

I got there at 13:00 and Ron and I were the only people to be seen.

The Hotel staff were a bit under the weather and admitted to having a late night on Saturday - so maybe that was it !

No other bikes about and no GS' on the road either.

Did they go by car ?

It was the Club Site's Xmas Bash all weekend. I don't know exact numbers but I think Stumpy said about 30 people there. Mostly on bikes AFAIK. I assume that they all set sail for home about 11.00 this morning. You must have just missed them all.

Had a lovely return journey from KM via Kincardine:rolleyes: .I'm just bleaching my shorts from sat's rideout, a little icy:eek: .top weekend:beerjug:

I was the only one on a bike !

Good for you, its nice to see the BMW club has one or two proper bikers.

Be assured you will never be the only one on a bike at any GSer/GSclub run

Stumpy

Voyager - was that your bike in the petrol station on Friday (11th) in Pitlochry? was on way up to Log Cabin around 5.30ish and noticed a red airhead RT as passed? Only other bike we saw all day (plenty at 't do of course).
The ride back yesterday was APPALLING
We too were turned at Forth (shame the advance signs never mentioned bikes) and it just got worse and worse. Carter Bar nearly saw us chucked right off road with wind - puddles were going vertical I kid you not, and A68 up round Tow Law was nearly as bad.
One bad m/c day, both Bev and I had to lean into wind most of time and on at least three occassions I thouht we were going off the road.
I thought is was extrem, but nought on news so I assume just normal weather :D
Friday glorious, Saturday deathly black ice, Sunday deathly side winds....just a normal winter biking w/e...why would anyone garage their bike 'til spring :mmmm

I'll post some piccies of the ice on Saturday later, no pictures from yesterday...wouldn't stop once 'in the grove'...5 hrs of mainly hell :nono

I think you are all very brave:thumb

Or possibly deranged:P

I'm just envious, I didn't manage to get my bike out from under its cover all weekend (busy Sat, a wee bit hungover on Sunday).

No it wasn't mine - I was at work in Edinburgh (Friday 8th).

I was at the BP station in Pitlochry at 14:30 on Sunday.

I saw two bikes heading South/West on the A9 at around midday - one was an F650 GS. Apart from that, no other bikes all day.
