Decided to go for a long reccy ride today , not to be as the final drive seal died

Just thought id post some pics , the fial drive bearing is still ok just the seal is dead , took it apart using big dead blow hammer and loads of swearing lol also i put a pic of the monster pastie .

Parts are on their way should be here by the morning aand hopefully back up n running for saturday

Are you changing just the seal or the bearing also.

P.S. What type of seal is around the outside of the Diff casing?

Just the seal for starters, the bearing looks good , no wear , the race cage is in order and the oil is nice and dark ( silvery grey means bearing death ) .

looking to change the seal then do a few short rides to check there is no lash / play in bearing wich causes seal failure , if there is no leakage then its happy days and if there is then its off to cardiff to sort out a new bearing !

its just an oil seal , made of synthetic rubber, a steel insert and a stainless spring seal
