Whilst cleaning my gsa (08 model) I noticed the rear wheel has what appears to be paint lift around one or two of the spokes. also the centre stand seems to be pitting under the black paint. SHould I take it in or wait and see if it gets worse? They may think im being petty. But a bike designed to go round the world shouldnt deteriorate around yorkshire

Bugger the pettyness take it in and get it looked at now, why wait to see if it gets worse. :thumb

If you're not happy with it, take it back to the supplying dealer. All they can do is either:

1. Agree and replace the wheel.

2. Tell you to piss off and stop wasting their time with trivia. But they'll probably use some more "customer friendly" words ;)

Take it in Oly, we pay over the odds for the pleasure of owning a BMW we should expect the quality of the product to be better than that.

After paying all that "hard-earned", you should expect it to be right - take it in. I'm sure the dealer will be positive.

Go for it and let us know how you get on.
I have a 08 gsa and if anything goes wrong I would be there getting bits replaced under warrenty for sure.

Some folk on here have had all manner of bits replaced due to corrosion so they should sort you out. I got my front panel done and one rocker cover but when I noticed the paint lifting on the rear hub around the spoke heads just before the warranty ran out I decided I would leave it as I couldn't be arsed going through the hassle of getting the bike up to the dealers and I have no plans to sell the bike in any case.

Don't hesitate, tek th bugger back, that's our (the english) problem we don't complain when we should.
If you bike is a GSA, check out the underside of the crash bars and the front engine cover, gave my 06 a good clean this weekend and not impressed.

My six month old GSA has had a new rear wheel due to corrosion. The mainstand doesn't look up to much - I'll mention it at the next service.

Dealers seem to have differing opinons about corrosion. The best advice I was given was to request a fix as soon as the problem became apparent. I followed their advice and lots of things were fixed under warrranty at the 1200 mile service (my choice to minimise downtime). Request the problems are fixed now in case the replacement parts are just as bad.

the bike is only 3 months old and has 1000 miles on it.
I bought the bike from wollastons in northampton but live in north manchester. ie 300 mile round trip.
Can i take it to my local dealer, as the warranty is with bmw not the dealer?

You can take it to any BMW dealer for warranty work. :thumb

I purchased a GSA from a fellow tosser from this site with about 10 months warranty left on the bike .There were a few corrosion issues ( final drive ,starter motor cover and wheels ) .Apart from the wheels , BMW changed the lot . They claimed owners neglect ( previous owner covered the bike in AFC50 , including the wheels ) and refused the claim on the wheels...I was dealing with BMW UK .What I don't understand is that they replaced some parts but not other parts , if there is a neglect than it applies to the all parts of the bike :nenau .
So good luck with your claim.

I agree that corrosion this soon should be replaced. I think the centre stand might be a different issue if the bike has been used off road or has otherwise been subject to repeated stone chip damage. I don't think car manufacturers (as an example) cover stone damage under warranty, and I don't think it's resonable to expect them to put stone-proof paint on it.

I had my front cover changed under warranty and a second time as a goodwill gesture, (no questions asked).
