In August I'm spending a week in Alsace/Vosges.
Traveling by car with lady in tow.

Wapping will get angry, but I come here deliberately asking for advice for a single night (nice) stop on my way back to London on the last day.
We'll be leaving from the Vosges area, I'll look if there is some interesting routes to drive, but what I'm looking for is potentially some nice/cozy/picturesque little town where to find a nice B&B (non bikermate :D ) & hotel and restaurant for the evening in the area that spans between Ardennes (preferably) and Reims.
It's a fairly short distance to cover, so we can be there in the early afternoon, spend some time around coffee/dinner, repeat the morning after and leave for lunchtime (have to be at the termina at 4pm, so plenty of time).

I'd avoid Reims specifically and bigger towns/cities. Planning for a non-stress week :)

I've been to Reims before, but I know very very little about the Ardennes area. I'm scouring other threads, especially's Snelly's pointer in the Wapping Alert thread, but any suggestion welcome.

is Sedan too big a town for you? Recent thread with some recommendations

if you want a rural location, just get on the Logis website and pick somewhere in your preferred price range

I missed that thread, I'll have a look, thanks!

just get on the Logis website
I found a couple potential.
Was just checking if there was some magic suggestion over "tested" places - you never know :)
When I went to Spain I followed Arsey advice and we very happy with the result.

I'll look into the Sedan option. Good starting point!

I can recommend this place as can Snelly55 i think:
Relais de la Vois Sacree.....
Restaurant is incredible!
Just south of Verdun - east of Reims by a few km
Tiny little hamlet of a couple of houses, lovely and peaceful.....cozy with incredible food.....

You have boiled my piss and it’s only 07:35 in the morning! As such, I’ll not tell you that…

I like this hotel and have stayed there a lot, with and without others:

You can ride from St Menehould to Calais, on D roads all the way or D roads to say, Cambrai and then pickup the motorway to the Chunnel or ferry.

It has two separate restaurants. One, a regular bistro type in the bar area and bit more upmarket one separately. The town is the ‘head office’ of cooked pigs’ trotters. I like them, others don’t. There are other things on the menu, too!

good to hear. I have booked it for day 1 of our 10 day jaunt around France in September.
