Shark Explore R Helmets

As per the title does anyone own a Shark Explore R helmet and if so are they any good ?

Fancy a new off road/adventure lid to use whilst trail riding but can't be *rsed with goggles as I wear glasses , the Shark seems to tick all the boxes and at the moment they are on offer from Louis in Germany for under 200 Euros in plain colours

Nolan N40 Full. £155 from FC-moto. Removable chin piece, good ventilation, internal sun visor, adjustable peak (actually works when riding into the sun!), big range of colour options. Brilliant piece of design.

I had the Explore R Carbon. Lovely comfortable helmet but I never used it with the goggles and peak, it was just used as a road helmet. Great fit & finish and high quality materials.

Well I spent over half a day trawling around listed Shark and NEXX dealers in the area , none of the Shark dealers had any Explore R lids in stock and apparently as of 1st November the prices have gone up to £360 (same as a Shoei).

As for the two NEXX dealers apparently both of them no longer stock the products ?????

I had an explore R. Couldn't get on with it. Was frustrating the peak would not work with the visor. only with the goggles. That looks to be rectified now though in that second image you showed? Looks like the peak can now be installed with the visor on.

Secondly the goggles were twin wall and gave a fair amount of reflection.

That said it was comfy and felt well made. had a built in chin curtain type thing for wet weather which was good. Not sure its worth the extra over the Vision R (which is basically what it is)

There was a little adapter to allow you to use visor & peak together. Your Shark dealer will retro fit it for you FOC

I have one bought cheap from France then took to my local shark dealer who sent it to shark uk who did the mod to allow the visor to fit with the peak.
Great helmet as you now have the drop down sun visor , I find I get no buffeting at speed , but in heavy rain it does allow a little water to get in to the
inside of the visor.
But overall a great lid��

Maybe a little bit out of your price range Neil? but I recently got a Nishua Carbon Enduro and am really pleased with it. Very comfy, super light and works really well with glasses.

Saw that one on Louis site but lids are one of the things I will not buy online and typically we are not going to Germany for the Christmas Markets this year .

The Shoei Hornet Adventure looks to be the most likely choice at the moment.

The Nishua make is one of Detlev Louis own brands and if their Vanucci kit is anything to go by no doubt very good quality

Appears that the Nishua Carbon Enduro helmet is actually a rebrand of the Uvex Carbon Enduro and is also marketed as the Klim Krios Karbon Enduro helmet

Yup, it is indeed. I didn't know that it's also badged by Klim.

FWIW I also have a Shoei Hornet which is what I use off road. The Nishua is lovely and light so is great to wear all day on road but the Shoei is defo more robust (no stick on plastic fins for starters) and takes knocks and scrapes much better

Last week I purchased an Arai XD4, great piece of kit.
I wear glasses and they slide in effortlessly.

Came from a Shark Evoline3, what a piece of shit that it was.

Well went for one of these in the end, cracking deal from Just Helmets , very nice lid and a brilliant fit.

Problem with the other makes is that apart from the real cheapies or Arais no one locally actually stocks helmets so you can try them on and make sure they are comfortable and actually fit

I have a Shark Hakka. A bit heavy for off roading (not that I do any) but handy to use open face.
The Airoh is lighter with good visibility and peak fits with visor but although well vented it steams up when visor is fully shut.

Make sure the top of the visor doesn't scratch the shell paint, mine was replaced because of it and all their new ones did the same..............I swapped to the Tour X4 - a far better helmet
