Looking for a sheep skin seat cover for Gs 1200 ..I find the stock seat Becomes very uncomfortable on long trip .. Rushy has one for his 1150 and really rates it he bought it in the states...

Anyone know where i can buy in the uk ?

Mike

Thanks for link did they make one to order the one Rushys got comes with straps to fit it to seat ...

those lambskin ones are great value, i cant speak for a quality as ive not compared the two, i can say that i ordered in the states, we also get a discount as a site sponsor, and they arrived within 7 days so no big deal to wait, i had the most expensive super think extra long all singing ones for my bike and they are amazing and look great in black, but i would get the medium length ones next time as my bike does look like a hairy scotsman when i have them on. also the lady that sells them will make sure you get the correct size to fit as they have securing straps and certain sizes for certain seats, mine fit exactly

A more sophisticated solution is provided by Easirider in Northampton. They take a sheepskin and sew on a textile surround. A drawstring is used to secure the bespoke tailored pad to the underside of the seat. Give them a call as they might already have the pattern for a 1200GS.
Again, their pads are fitted for an individual bike application - not small, medium, large etc.
They claim airline pilots sit on them to cross the Atlantic - good enough for me! Friendly with excellent service.

Thats the one i'm looking for black with straps ...Just seen Johns link i think i'll give them a call tomorrow thanks guys...

I made my own...

Bought some sheepskin at the local market...(picked the darkest natural one I could find... it was very shaggy)

Bought some black 3/4" elastic and some velcro...

2" piece of elastic folded over at the front middle, 5" at each aft corner... bit of velcro sewed on near the end, and glued to the bottom of the seat..

The elastic is key... anything that is not super strong, or super compliant will come unstuck when you shift around... I went with super compliant... works a charm..

must admit they do look better than my alaska one from america.. bout the same money too but better fitment

sheepskin + elastic + velco, and excellent combination.

However if you want an even softer ride, then nip down to your local camping store and purchase an inflatable cushion (~£5 - £10), put a little bit of air in it (only a little mind you), pop it under the sheepskin, and you've got the equivelant of a furry airhawk. This is seriously comfortable. I didn't notice any real difference when riding, but when I got off at the end of a 450 mile day - I could still walk, which was a massive improvement compared to the standard seat.

More importantly the missus commented that it was a big improvement too. At least as the rider you move around a bit, but the poor pillion is a kind of mobile prisoner - so if she's happy then I'm happy

Cheers

What is more I get to support what is a basically a cottage industry and provide work for Jill, Mavis etc....
When I changed an 1100RT to a 1200RT, they retailored the skins for a very modest amount!

I love the sheepskin. Used one on a 4 day - 1500 mile trip to and thru the Schwarzwold recently and it was very comfy. Don't need to spend so much though...I picked up a remnant from a shop in glastonbury for £8. No straps are needed...I tust tuck the tail-end under the pillion pad.....you could wedge it between the seat and tank if you prefer.

....IMHO the raw skin looks less :ymca than a fitted lambskin thingy :)
