I've used mine in fairly heavy rain, and only the surface seems to get wet, it never gets soaked right through. In fact it keeps your arse drier than without it.:D

OK, Sorry to be stupid, but what is the bigg appeal of sheepskin.
I assume its warm and comfy, but doesn't get horribly wet?
Still no doubt causes much ammusment.

My wife started moaning about the seat on the Adventure from the first time we rode for more than an hour, I'd seen a few on pictures in posts, so, as they're a lot cheaper than a new seat, and a better option than listening to "I preferred the RT" everytime bikes were mentioned, I bought one, to be honest I was sceptical and thought I'd end up buying a new seat anyway...
What a difference!! From now I'll always have one, even if I change the bike, or the wife...

Yes it does get wet:rolleyes: (No Surprises there) but if you're wearing waterproofs it's still comfy, The only drawback I've found is if you get caught in a downpour and you're wearing jeans, but that shouldn't affect you blokes in the UK too much:cool: If you ride in hot weather and without all the gear it keeps the dangly bits well aired as well!

I got mine from Alaskan Leather the owner, Barb, is an Adv Rider and gives Adv Rider members a discount, no reason why she wouldn't give the same to members of this forum.

Just e-mailed alaska leather asking for the easiest way to pay, and also trying for a GS club discount. As the skins are ready shaped it looks alot easier than just buying a rug and gettin to work on it.... I'll pass on results of query when i get a reply:bounce1

Thats quick! Got a reply from Barb already, She will do a 10percent reduction, Price of deluxe butt pad and shipping comes in at just under 64 dollars, which at todays exchange rate makes it pretty good value.
I rang her and passed visa details over phone, she says it will be posted monday, and at the moment shipping is about 5 days.

Couldnt be easier!:hapybnce: Thanks to Bawdy Monk!

Alternative Sheepskin Seat Cover.

Got dragged into a horse tack shop by my wife the other day. Happy for 5 mins while I checked out the cute staff - then extremely bored. In the back I found a sheepskin 'seat-saver'. This is a saddle shaped piece of sheepskin already affixed to a elastic skirt and designed to go over the top for a comfy tush in the winter. It looks perfect for a 180 degree spin and should therefor fit a std GS1150 seat. Unfortunately the store only had a 'pony size' of 18 inches and its not quite big enough by 6 inches. By guestimation about a 24 inch 'large saddle' should do the trick for £35 ready made! Have a look at your nearest store and let me know. They come in a range of colours. Black looks good.

This from the Alaskan Hides wubbleyou site.......

My wallet is groaning

After a very helpful conversation with Byrn and Barb at Alaska leather, have purchased a Black delux Butt Pad, from Byrn's picture it looks rather super!!.

very nice people to deal with, $64 for an excellent product and POSTAGE, the uk charge £10 to post a cable, I'm sure we get ripped off every time.

Give you a full comfort report once tested, 20sts maybe longer than 1 1/2hr before sore Ar*e.

Gary.

Bryn,

Am about to order and like a dodo I did ask about a discount for the GS'ers......

Haven't mentioned the "Mad Cow"pattern I was thinking of ordering for 'er indoors and pillion seat....

Saw this thread this morning - phone Alaska this afternoon and bought a rider/pillion set my GS.

I had a sheepskin seat cover onmy old GPz in New Zealand years agao when I used to do some really long trips and they are definitely worth their weight in gold.

Barbs was brill and gave me a GSer discount!

Cheers Bawdy Monk - You da Man!

Dye a Sheep Skin?

As I am now planning the June run down to austria & the Dolomites I have decided to "steal" the lamb skin that my younge lad used as a baby.....

It is White at present & I wondered whether anyone had tried dying one of these with any succsess. Black is the preferred option.

I would rather the dye suggested didn't run in the first shower of rain that hit it.

Seat Cover

Mike:
I should have the half I did not used for my seat. Should be enough to cover the rider seat.
Come to Sutton and collect...but let me check if is still were was suppose to be...

OI Bawdy you plonker...you put your buttpad on back to front!!!

(well i hope so anyway...else mine is!!)

Got my buttpad....nice bit of dead sheep it is too.......I've been putting mine on the other way round from you...so the fixed loop goes round the back of the seat and then the clip ends from the boingy strap ping back nicely in the gap made under the front of the seat........

Look at mine and Bryns and you'll see the cutouts are in the right place to allow it to go up the hump to the tank, also the optional pillion pad is most certainly at the back:dabone

AND mine is plonker proof... Barb put a an arrow underneath:P
