Well after 3 months and £2500, my 1200gs was delivered on sat morning, I torqued up and marked the bolts. I was astonished when the dealers delivery driver knew that the bike had been there for months but had no idea of the circumstances , this seems very strange considering how bmw are supposed to be looking into the matter but how that even some of the staff at the dealership where my bike was held had no idea that there might be a problem with probably one of the best bmw’s to date.

The bike is now fitted with bmw panniers so bmw can not blame my preferred GIVI for problems with the bike.
I will be road testing it and I will be keeping a close eye on the bolts as I expect most of you are.

This morning I rolled her out of my lock up to give the bike her first test ride , I climbed on , turned the key watched the electronic display light up I waited a moment and took a deep nervous breath and has I exhaled pressed the start button …. Nothing , well nothing but the clicking of the starter motor solenoid that was probably tapping out in morse code …--- f.l.a.t. b.a.t.t.e.r.y. . you would think that the dealer would have charged the bloody thing! And to add insult to injury after I had jumped started her , I thought I’d better check the oil , oh yes believe it or not I couldn’t see any oil showing in the view port ,I thought they must have put really clear oil in and I just couldn’t see a line , . then coming to my senses and thinking that I’ve never seen oil that clear , I realised that it needed oil and I proceed to put half a litre in . I can only assume the mechanic who replaced the rocker cover must have forgot to add oil , easy mistake I guess.
Is it just me or do you get this sort of treatment from your dealers.?
Oh maybe you do , I got a text from PHIL.W today , he went to A. JEFFERIES to look at is bike Saturday only to find it stood outside in the rain instead of stored inside like you would expect..
And these side boxes look as big as my givi on the outside but the inside is tiny especially the left side, and they look like a couple of breeze blocks I’ve never seen an aerodynamic breeze block before , very interesting . the top box just about holds the torque wrench I have to carry around .with me.

I agreee - the left pannier is pretty small !! Dont forget the engine sucks all the oil up when you start it.. While we're talking about oil, mine drank 500ml's in 2200 miles round europe, and all I could find was semi synth, when the dealer gave me mineral - will it matter ?

Good to hear you got your bike back,a/jefferies service standards have up 7 down like a brides nighty recently :tosser .i took my bike in for service & warranty work, told michael, service manager about noise on bevel box. picked up,can,t find no play or noise. :mcgun :spitfire .uselass tw-ts.before itook it in ,icheck oil in b/box burnt, full of metalic particles.went back later with oil sample, severe bollocking ensued.ne b/box fitted next day. letter sent to bmw custumer support, took them aweek to get back to me.also mate across the road rt went in for oil leaks ,took it out for spin coolant hose blew off,it helps if ya tighten hose clips up. :spitfire

So you started it up then checked the oil level AND then added some eh - priceless!!

Sherps ;)

If you just briefly run the engine from cold, 19/20 times the oil level will vanish.

Yes I know I’m stupid I should have checked the oil first, there is usually some sign of oil in the view port , well there always has been on my bike , in my defence it had just come back from the dealers .and the adding of the oil was a gradual process , I didn’t just stick half a litre in , I simply meant the result was half a litre had to be added. And I finished up 25 minutes late for my meet, but my engines ok.
