It's time to replace my aging Arai Quantum f, esp with the NEC show coming up. I did a quick run to a nearby dealer yesterday (getting v wet in the process!) and discovered that my head is slightly more comfortable in a Shoei XR1000 compared to the latest Arais.

BUT, the chap in the shop said that fitting Autocom headsets is an ar*e in Shoeis nowadays and if need to fit one, get an Arai.

What's the considered wisdom here?

Cheers
Pete

I don't have a Shoei - but you could get Autocom to fit the headset whilst at the show.

Good luck with your choice.

I have a Shoei xr-1000 and found it dead easy to fit the Autocom headset.

Found it didn't take much adjustment to get the speakers in the right position.

They don't fit in the Z-One, the internal plastic liner of the Z-One that made it really quiet, meant the speakers were pushing very hard against my ear. Ended up with an Arai instead.

I'd take some speakers with you, and check it out before buying.

cheers

Hi Pete,

Come over and see me on our stand and we will find the nearest Shoei dealer and try some speakers in a lid, this will be nice and easy.

The new Shoei's are a 50/50 helmet with us due to the helmets being different sizes compared with the older Raids etc so they can be a tight fit from time to time

Hi Rich.

Don't think I'll make it to the show this year so hope you don't mind me asking here instead.... I was about to buy an Autocom to fit my 2.5 yr old Z-One so can you offer any advice on issues or speakers I should consider?

Thanks.

No problems, you should be ok with your Z-One actually they are one of the last larger helmets if you see where I am coming from. The XR-800's and 1000's are now supplied in smaller sizes so you might or worn a large but now it would be a medium etc.

The speakers are fitted horzintally via some self adhesive velcro strips on the small cut out of the ear recess. This might be the black plastic inner shell of the helmet but some Z-Ones have a small fabric panle covering up the plastic.

We fit the microphone boom under the check pad out of the way again held in place with a small velcro strip.

The main wiring loom is fitted towards the back of the helmet, we flex the inner and outer shell of the helmet apart and drop the main loom into the helmet so the loom is held in place with friction. We aslo flex the helmet open a bit to run the speaker cable from one side of the helmet over to the other.

I hope this helps

Cheers

Rich

Will do :D

When I tried on the XR1000 it didn't feel particularly narrow so we'll see on the day (most likely the 1st Nov)

Thats good, if it was tight around your ears before it would be tighter once the speakers are in. We shall see :thumb
