Shoei GT Air

Hi, I have just completed a 1000 mile Europe trip in my new GT Air. I have to say that this is easily the best lid I have had so far.

Shoei helmets seem to fit me well so fit is a personal thing. I have read that the GT Air sizes come up a little small in the sizing however, I have not found this....sizing is consistent with other Shoei lids I have owned.

The quality is the usual high level with a very comfortable liner. The drop down sun visor is the best I have used...great optical quality and drops down far enough to be effective....it also fully retracts out of the eyeline.

There are removable ear pads for those who want comms which I have. There is plenty of room left for ears that usually equates to increased noise. However, this is the quietest helmet I have had by far. I think this is in part due to the high level of wind tunnel testing. The airflow over the helmet is excellent. Buffeting in cross winds and following traffic at motorway speeds is considerably reduced.....really impressed.

As will all new lids, i found the cheek pads to be very firm however, after a couple of hours wearing the lid has bedded in well and is all day comfortable. This is aided by being quite ligh.

Mine is plain white which retails at £399 but Heine Gericke did it for £340 and at that price is great value IMO for a top quality lid.

Agreed. I was really impressed with the water tight seal around the visor which has been tested with the heavy downpours in recent weeks. Awesome lid!

I have one, found it to be too claustrophobic! (size large with less than 200 miles if your interested in one), so have gone back to an Arai tourX.

Nope, still love it. I have 3 lids including a tour x3.....if I am in for a long ride or touring I always take the GT Air. Ridden through some pretty awful conditions and stayed dry. It has bedded in well, very quiet with great optics on the visor and sun visor. Highly recommended

As much as I like mine, I'd change the visor operating mechanism, to allow for a smaller first opening detent. All my previous lids have had a small open position which allowed me to keep my glasses demisted but mostly prevented driving rain from coming in. A recent trip in very heavy fine rain faced me with the options of being blinded by misted up glasses or lenses and a Pinlock that were saturated by driving rain.

All my previous lids have had a small open position which allowed me to keep my glasses demisted but mostly prevented driving rain from coming in. A recent trip in very heavy fine rain faced me with the options of being blinded by misted up glasses or lenses and a Pinlock that were saturated by driving rain.

Good point... It does seem an obvious error but not being a wearer of glasses fortunately not been a problem for me.

What comms are you using in-helmet? I'm considering the GT-Air to replace my Schubert S1 but would need to fit a Scala G9.

Using Interphone F4.....plenty of room for the ear pieces and easy to install.

I quite like mine. I got a reasonable deal in-store at Infinity in Clapham and then did 2000 miles on a Euro tour straight away with a Sena SMH10 and Drift Ghost tacked to it.

The fit is pretty tight and the tops of my ears sometimes fold over but the finish is good, the vents work and the helmet is very light. The inner sun-visor is way better than Schuberth's one which scratches if you breathe on it and costs a fortune to replace. Sometimes I wish there was a dark option for the main visor despite having the tinted inner version as I prefer the full coverage.

My other helmets are the Schuberth C3 and a now ratty Arai Tour-X3. The Shoei is not as quiet as the Schuberth but definitely lighter and has better quality matt paint. The C3 probably has a plusher interior.
