Hi all,

I am contemplating ditching the centre stand on the 1150gs to save weight. Does anyone know how much weight I will save and how hard it is to change a tyre without it?

Regards
Garry

Centre stand off?

The mass you would be 'adding lightness' to is in the one place where mass is actually of some use on a GS.

i.e. Low down, between the wheels and as close as possible to both the centre of gravity and centre of yaw.

Better to concentrate your efforts on mass that is likely to be more of a liability than an asset in the dynamic balance arena.

Bottom line: Did I just say asset; now there's a clue!

well thats that then!

Thanks for all the responses. I'll keep it on. Weight Watchers it is then!...

you can save more weight, by having a dump before you ride your bike .

And it`ll make about as much difference as removing the centre stand would....

Aah,centre stand removal as a sign of a lairy rider......takes me right back to the days of RD400s,Suzuki GS1000s and X7s !!

It's one of the things that pisses me off about most Jap bikes, not having a centre stand as standard. I always end up buying an after market one. How the f..k are you supposed to adjust the f..king chain without one. Having a poxy paddock stand at home is no f..king good when your in Morroco. Maybe manufacturers don't fit them because they honestly believe most riders only use their bikes on Sunday and do the average annual mileage of 4k or never take them abroad or maybe it's so they can charge stupid prices for them as an accessory!

After reading all the comments about removing the centre stand,I'm not going to admit to having taken mine off because I think it looks tidier, the voices made me do it!
