Hi Jay

It's the HD aftermarket slightly shorter screen. I could measure it if you like but it's in the roof space of the garage at the moment. I found it a bit too low so cut a couple of inches off the standard one. I like to just look over the screen but still be protected from wind blast and rain. I can't stand looking through a wet screen at the road surface ahead.

I should probably try it out again as my Corbin seat (and my posture!) has 'settled' a bit over the years and it may work better now. If not I might be persuaded to sell it :augie

Its probably 16inch . I know what you mean about looking through a wet screen its even worse in the evenings with car head lights lighting up the whole screen . I also considered cutting the standard one by a couple of inches but couldn't find any one that would do it and Id probably make a right mess of it . I know these screens are expensive and for that reason I haven't bought one . So how much would you want for yours ? Cheers

Hi Dave

while were here ,any one got a original set of pipes for an electra glide , or anything ,so i can get those hideous fish tail pipes off, especially after i stabbed my shin on the end of one , ooh that did smart a lot ,and i even said bad words

I know you asked me before about the pipes I probably will never use mine but Id better keep them just in case one day might need them for Mots . I have seen plenty on ebay and not expensive .

umm some nice bikes there Nick, well not sure about the paintwork on 1 of them. :) - but if we all had the same taste you would be after my wife!

Anybody else share the opinion that Harley franchise dealers second hand bikes are damn expensive? - Understand that they need to keep the perceived value high to attract buyers to their new bikes, but jeez! Any pointers to good independent bike dealers that are not afraid of stocking a Harley or 2? Looks like I have a bit of redundancy money to spend soon, and might as well turn a negative into a positive!

Constantly check Ebay - a couple of gorgeous roadkings have appeared over the last two weeks. A 1999 with a buy it now price of £6K ( in farnham) that went in 90 mintues, and the other sold his 2001 RK for £6250. But you've got to be quick and just jump in and buy them blind.

If i hadn't had already bought mine i'd have had one of them.

And an 1990 electraglide with a batwing fairing that went for £4200. But it did need a good tidy up.

Couple of pics of the 2001 RK that sold.

Isn't the RK screen adjustable ? My FLHS screen is adjustable up and down for height.

Very true, but it's strange how it now seems ok to do just that...

Everything's got a lot faster :augie

That's only on the cheap bikes that appear now and again ( you can always change your mind when you get there if it isn't as described :augie).

You can still take your time and kick the tyres on the "average" priced bikes as there are always a good selection. And what have you got to lose by waving a "wad" and making a silly offer. :D

No, the RK screen isn't adjustable except with a bandsaw :D

Typical HD, f*cking up even the simplest things :blast

On the FLHS it's 2 bolts per side (has been for decades)

They want you to buy a new screen of course :augie

One of the many reasons I love the Evo. and hate the Company

Cutting Harley screens down

I've done this quite a lot over the years on Harley screens. It really isn't difficult once you decide to bite the bullet.

1. Mark where you want it cut using a white board marker or similar.

2. Use a piece of string with the marker attached to draw an arc or three from the middle of the screen near the bottom to get the new profile symmetrical. You'll need to get the exact profile you want by drawing it by eye but the radius lines will help.

3. Apply plenty of masking tape to the screen to avoid scratching it. You could do this before marking it up but that may make accurate positioning of the line more difficult.

4. Run it through a bandsaw or if you haven't got one a jigsaw will do.

5. Clean up the edge carefully using, typically, rasps, files, sander, abrasive paper, wet'n'dry. You can perfect the profile at this point. It's maybe easier to do if it's on the bike with the tape removed. Just sheet the bike up around it to stop the crap going everywhere.

Hope this helps anybody considering doing it.

I've got a bandsaw if you want to come and see me in Reading. All at your own risk of course....

Sorry if this post is in the wrong section but I didn't know where else to put it!

The France idea is fantastic :thumb2

Alternatively someone who has organised Rally weekends in the UK might have some suggestions...

Thanks for the info

Ok i'm back ref France..... two problems... i cannot buy a Harley till winter 2011/12....(cash/toy situation) and the house is occupied till September 2011 with holiday peeps, then i'm off on the GS for my boys tour of Spain in September...

So that leaves this Autumn, but i will be on the GS and the weather will be shite as it rains in Brittany from October till March and the roads are covered in Mud from the heavy agriculture!... so, for this trip lets look at bolting it onto a May bank Holiday, set the date now for 2012 and i'll take a list...

Accomadation is:

Main room double bed and pull out could sleep two blokes or three:ymca

2nd room can sleep max 4 in single beds or three with a little space

3rd room 2 max

living room sofa bed one really..

So, 8 is comfortable......10 at a push...... camping for 4 tents max..

the toilet and shower will come under pressure then....

so, lets go for ten and you can choose a bed or tent....

as for 2011.... i'll let one of you organise something and i'll gate crash on the GS in a Trippy/Weekend style,,.,.,. claiming its my house/i'll have a Harley next year!

As said above No

It would of been a nice touch though . I will have to give it a go with a jig saw and hope its not to short when iv finished .
