I went into Warrs harley davidson emporium ( Harleys since 1924 blah blah blah) and couldn't believe the utter shite you can buy to "customise" your harley, and the ludicrous branded clothing

I rolled up wearing just a shirt and jeans and noticed how all the other harley (nothing older than a near old) owners were in regulation harley badged clothing, all nice and ironed.....

So i tried on a selection of headgear, and the keen as mustard salesman couldn't do enough for me. I even had him serously believing i wanted a headscarf with some hair attached. Feck knows how i kept a straight face.

I had to go into my local 'Dealer' to get some keys sorted out (long story).

It's now got to the stage where the staff come out to look at my bike, having obviously never actually seen something so old...

very nice except the exhaust , in my opinion (and yes im allways right ) ,they just dont look right ,would have looked better with twin upswepts ,on both sides, more balanced

I am slowly learning to like the way of riding - moto gp stylee round roundabouts to stop the stupidly low foot-boards from scraping

i love the way it just stays at the speed you want to go and feels happy - no egging you on to go faster - and you just sit and watch the world go by.

It also runs unbelievably smoothly and the gbox is a light click up and down - must be all the k's under its belt - and better for it, i think.

now - seriously - what oil should i use in it - 135k kms - i'm thinking a full synth

Same problem with mine...I've ditched the foot-boards for some "forwards" ..

I don't see too many Sportsters in this thread. Are they not considered to be 'real' Harleys or are they more for girls ? Personally, I love the looks of the 883 and think it is the purest looking Harley of all. I saw a lovely yellow one with minimal chrome in the dealers here and was kinda tempted to add a second bike to the stable.

Some mis-guided souls will describe them as a girl's bike. They occupy the same place in the range as the 650 or 800 does in the GS range. In reality they are built for the urban sprawl that many U.S. cities have expanded into. As we don't have those conditions here the tank range can be a challenge. In addition they are a different beast to the big twins to ride. The best thing to do is test ride one, and if you like it then buy it.

The 48 and the Iron are very cool to look at and great value for money

Performance wise you're more or less on a 250 Super Dream and if you're of a tosser stature then u may ask P/Wide for a R King demo instead

I had a FatBoy (is that not the perfect moniker for a tosser ? ) out for a demo a while back. I actually thought the engine was quite nice and very surprised with the gearbox which wasn't the bag of spanners I thought it would be. Brakes were horrendous tho' as was the limited ground clearance. But I suppose those are the areas that you have to recalibrate your brain for anyway.

I spoke to my oil man and today he delivered some rock oil TRM 20/60 fully synth racing oil which he supplys to harley dealers/independants.
