I've seen a few GS' during the last week, where were you in the winter:augie

My route to work in the morning is along the M27 from Southampton to Portsmouth, 7:00 to 7:30. Evening run is from 4:30ish to 5:15ish Westbound on the M27, then up the M3.

Anyway, I'm either on the Black 1150, or a black small Honda. I'm wearing an orange Roof full face,(I've had comments at work as to why my helmet reads Poof:blast ) and green fluorescent jacket. I'm obvious:D,so now you know who I am, who are you?

In my local area
Often seen from Aldershot going up one junction and off at Bagshot and making my way off towards Windsor or down the A32 down to Fareham/Gosport.
Black 1150GSA either wearing a crash damaged honda Blackbird cordura jacket over mi leathers or or my trusty DPM Jacket.
Depending on the mood, it'll either be a white Simpson helmet with black visor (natch) on mi noggin or a black Suomy SPEC 1R helmet.

Probably be down Alton train station cafe of a Wednesday evening when the cafe starts to stay open late again.

Don't then

I only come out at night. My route to work takes me along the A339 to Basingstoke. A really good biking road, just watch out for the deer and badgers! If anyone does spot me I'm on the white 1200GSA with all lights blazing.

Suprisingly badgers are very tough. I had the misfortune to actually run over one as it scuttled across the road. It was like running over a speed hump at high speed, I felt sorry for said badger and expected to see it on my return in the morning flat as a pancake, but there was no sign of it. So he lived to see another day or night as the case may be.

In the late 80s, my mate Rob used to ride around the Sennybridge area of Wales on a Kwack GT750 hard tail chop. He had a badger come out of a hedge at night and try and exit through his back wheel.

Back wheel locked up & rob ended up under a Landy that was passing the other way. Badger was dead but still in one piece, if not a little mangled.
By the time he was half under the Landy, it had slowed down when seeing a long haired figure sliding towards it.

He broke a few ribs and I think he did his collar bone in.

Some years later he was hit by an army lorry that was coming back off the ranges but that was a whole different kettle of fish.

Badgers, hard as nails...the little feckers!

As you say Badgers are hard as nails. I'm just off now to see if I can see some more. Ride safely.

Must've been you I saw last week on M27 with an Orange roof lid on. I was in my white transit connect van with 'Adcock Refrigeration' plastered all over it. Spot the Nippy Norman sticker on the top of the rear left door to tell me from the crowd of other Adcock engineers in the area.

Ride safe, and watch out for van drivers, my mirrors are crap and the blind spots are enormous. Apologies in advance if I knock you off yer GS. :D

My work...

takes me in all directions from Andover......1150GS Blue/White, GSA top box, red helmet, Hi Viz jacket,,tomorrow am off to Crawley.....:D

Ah ha! I surmise from this that you've actually left the Navy now, then?

Are you still going down to Oz??

I was at an IAM meeting yesterday and we had a very good talk from a Hants bike copper. He said that he almost always avoids the A339 because there are so many accidents on it.

We had a chap from our IAM group killed three or four weeks ago. Not his fault, wrong place wrong time sort of thing. There are too many nutters riding/driving it, with more than a few of each group ending up in hedges.

Part of the problem lie sin the many side road junctions.

That being said, a pal and I (he's ex-plod) try to ride it at National. It's very demanding but it's an absolute bitch if you get stuck in traffic.

A very good, if demanding route for those of us in South Hants is to start at Wickham Square, then A32 to Alton, then A339 to Basingstoke turning off just before where the M3 crosses over the A339, along the Candovers road to Arlesford, then a quick shimmy across the A31 to just past the start of the A272 to the start of the Morestead road and down to Corhampton, drop down the A32 to Wickham and then enjoy a nice cream tea at the Tea House.

A Garmin route plan for this exists which I'm happy to send anyone who wants it.
