Sick 850

Hi I am new here so be gentle. Here goes bought my gs 850 last sept got about 800 miles done before winter kicked in, so the bike has been sitting all winter went to start it about a month ago and batt was flat. borrowed my mates optimiser and charged it, started the bike no probs and the bike was running well. two weeks past due to work and weather batt flat again, bumped the bike and went for a run bike went well, went to Hurst Motorad and bought a new batt £94.00 (ouch) lifted the tank to fit the batt, since that the bike missing badly and backfiring on and off one cyl, low revs the bike is bad as you build speed it runs a bit better. Having read your forums I beleive it may be water in the tank that has got into the fuel or a breather pipe blocked.

I would appreciate your opinions and solutions to this problem

As John says - check the seating of the throttle cables - they're often disturbed when lifting the tank leading to poor running:
