Saw a new 1200ST today and was immediately envious of the superior weather protection from rear wheel crud which the moulded side panels give.

They look good, so I was wondering whether to replace my DIY ones with the Touratech or Wunderlich ones for the 12GS.

I've looked through the threads on here and there doesn't seem to be anything conclusive about which make is best.

From the (tiny) pictures on the firm's websites the Wunderlich ones look better, but seem to be smaller than the Touratech ones so may not give as much protection.

Also, does anyone know if the Touratech ones will fit with the standard BMW luggage thingies still fitted (the ones that come with the bike)? I've removed mine, but may want to put them back in the future.

And what colour is best, black or silver?

It has been reported here that the side panels for the 12GS don't stop all the crud from flying on your legs. You still have crud flung on your lower legs. It has been suggested that the new Motorrad Concepts hugger will be more effective than installing the side panels.. We are waiting to hear an actual report from someone who has installed this hugger. If I were you, I'd wait for the hugger report before spending the money on the side panels.

Looking at the price of all these gadgets, it might be cheaper to trade mine in for an ST. Wonder if they are as good as the GS .... ?

furry seat

Ugg..............yep reckon she's got a bit of a bush

I've got a home made flap that extends downwards a good couple of inches further than the model shown above. Even that doesn't keep my boots clean, but it has improved the situation. I'd suggest therefore that the plastic flaps described above will be next to useless for this purpose.
