Has anyone had side stand issues? I've checked the hand book and it does'nt mention anything to retify the problem?

STOP IT - IF PEOPLE KEEP DOING THIS TO THEIR BIKES MY INSURANCE PREMIUM WILL GO THROUGH THE ROOF! :-(

Are you asking (as hinted by the piccy) if there are issues with it not being strong enough or pinging up??

If so, not heard or read anything about that as far as i can remember.....

There have been many comments about the side stand cut-out switch and the way it affects the starting of the bike though....a search will reveal all.

Feckin things

Mine has fallen off the sidestand twice. I now leave it in gear (something I've never had to do with any other bike). A staff member at the local dealer has also commented that they have had so many problems with various BMW stands that they always park the bike in gear.

From an engineering point of view, the shape of the sidestand doesn't make sense (except that it "fits" neatly under the bike when up). Any forward movement causes the stand to flip up, whereas it should really be designed (as it is on every other bike I can ever recall seeing) to brace forwards without allowing motion of the bike to turn into movement of the stand relative to the bike.

Choices are either to cut & reweld the stand (there is a bit of room for tweeking), or park in gear. I couldn't be arsed getting the grinder out, so I'll park in gear.

That looks like a fun angle to have to lift a GS up from, not

Hope you're having fun out there, certainly looks a lot warmer than it is over here at the mo. :)

I think you're meant to lean the bike the other way? :D

Sorry, couldn't resist....

I put one of those 'bigfoot' sidestand thingies on the soleplate of my stand to make the contact area bigger for soft ground, and so far have had no trouble with the sidestand (touch wood) as it seems less likely to flip up on its own with one of these fitted.

Mine nearly rolled off the side stand the first day i had it. Just managed to save it :o , now its always parked in gear

My bike has never fallen off the side stand, but the sidestand has fallen off the bike. New subframe was the result :D

Be interested to know if you find out the problem.

Same thing happened to me - more than once :spitfire
