Since Wanadoo changed over to Orange...I find that if I don't continually use the internet ( ie when typing a long email ) then the broadband seems to go into a stand'by or defunct ( !! ) mode and I have to turn off the broadband and re-connect..all is well then.

Is there a way to stop this ( I do remember a program that fooled the PC into thinking it was downloading all the time ect therefore stopping the stand-by function ( incidently I just call it a stand-by function as I can't get the internet etc etc)

This only happened since ( originally freeserve ) Wanadoo sold out to Orange

Cheers Kenny

If you're using an ADSL router with modem it will keep the connection up all the time, as you aren't managing to keep it up for long then get some blue tabs from your Doctor or make sure your ADSL modem isn't using the Auto Disconnect feature.

Blue tablets just clogged up the motherboard...anyway..had a quick butchers at my modem settings and there isn't any auto disconnect feature ! The task bar still shows I'm connected but the PC can't find websites..until I turn off then on again !

Install Skype Kenny....it'll keep your connection alive all the time 'cos it constantly pings backwards and forwards keeping track of who's online. :thumb

That doesn't say you're connected - it says the device and its drivers are sound.

What tells you its connected is the symbol in the system tray (down by the clock bottom right) which will usually consist of a symbol and the status is shown as green (connected) yellow (connected but no service) and red (disconnected).

You want

Control Panel
Internet Options
Connections Tab
Highlight your broadband connection from the Dial-up and VPN settings
Select Settings
Select Advanced from Dial-up Settings window
And lastly ensure neither of the check boxes for disconnect options are selected.
Save, cose and appply as required until you are back to the desktop.

If that fails then Wanapoo Bombay are onhand and waiting for your call :thumb

Thanks Andy...been there and all is OK...must be their way of saving online time......I'll sit back and see what happens :) Thanks tho':thumb
