Can anyone tell me what the main differences between the f650gs single and twin (other than one has one plug and the other has two)

Slightly better fuel economy, slightly better emissions, and er, well thats about it.

It's often believed the twin spark is a little more sprightly than the single spark.

Though our Y2K Dakar is easily as sprightly as the twin spark we sold a few months ago. :nenau

PS: by simple virtue of the extra plug the twin plug will cost a little more to service.

apart from that ,i think the twinspark version has a slightly different rear rack/ sidepanel/front mudguard and headlight.

oh and the twinsparks are more common.:P

especially compared to the lovely original rare black white version;)

Twin spark was introduced to stop the surging of the single spark. My single spark doesn't surge so I'm assuming the modification worked when they swopped to twin plugs :blast:blast:blast

I get 70mpg on a run out of the single spark and I only need to worry about 1 coil, spark plug etc etc.Top speed is 379mph according to my Garmin sat nav. I can't see why you would need to go quicker :D:D

There were minor differences in the plastics and that's about it.

Either bike will be good :thumb

The 04-07 bikes have 3 different front panels 'beak and tank sides'. These are all compatible with the old panels where by they all fit together 'old & new'.

The rear rack is however completely different. The old bike's top box will not fit the newer bike (without completely rebuilding the rear end).

The front of the 04-07 is also different in that the screen, clock surround, headlight and front sub-frame.

The Heated grips button is also relocated to the right hand switch gear (where the headlight switch was originally going to be). The ABS button oddly stays on the yoke.

HTH
