On a recent trip to France I have discovered a way to skip waypoints much faster (on iPhone), compared to tapping on ‘Skip Waypoint’ button, then having to confirm it by tapping on ‘Yes’.

Please note: The above method is obviously ideal if you have tapped ‘Skip Waypoint’ by accident, but if you are absolutely certain that you are in the mood to skip that mountain pass or two and just want to trundle along as fast as possible to that hotel and a cold one, then do the following.
Tap and hold the ‘Skip Waypoint’ button for a mere second. That’s it. No double tapping about or having to confirm anything.

I am not sure how many of the folk already knew this trick, but I am sure it’ll help those who haven’t known of this feature in MRA app.

That method skips points sequentially, one by one.

If you shrink the map back, you can tap on whatever point you need to go to. The app will then take you directly to that point, from where you are standing, negating / deleting any intervening points. That is quicker than skipping any points individually.

Here’s an example, where (sitting in Wapping) I have gone all but directly to Vianden, skipping the intervening points of my original route. The new route is in blue, the ‘skipped’ route in white.

It’s one of the advantages of adopting MyRoute’s suggestion of placing a point every 5km / 3 miles, as it gives you a lot of points to chose from as your next destination. I used it successfully to cut around a road closure that I hadn’t anticipated.

Try it, you can’t break it.

Indeed it does, and is ideal solution to just skip one or two waypoints.

I did not know about the ability to tap on a final waypoint the way that you have described. Thank you for the educational insight.

It doesn’t have to be the last point. Any point along the way will do.

Naturally enough, if the point you are skipping to is on some small road road, the only way of getting there ‘direct’ might well be no different to your original route.

To this might be added that the recent update(s) to the app, allow you to amend routes, much as if you were on the main site; something that was not so easy (or impossible) before.

It really is becoming better and better.
