Sleeping bag .

Looking for a few recommendations for a 3 season sleeping bag ,don’t want down but needs to be compressible to fit in pannier also not cost the earth

I believe there is now a synthetic down alternative.
Have a look on Ultralight gear they have good wide range.
Also if you toss and turn consider a camping quilt instead

There are numerous synthetic down alternatives now. Down is expensive for reason though. Mainly because it’s just better in almost every environment than the synthetic substitutes. I’ve three down bags and a couple of synthetic ones. All my down bags are over 40 years old and still perform very well. My oldest is from 1976 and is commonly referred to as old two feather these days as it has lost a bit of down over the years. In that time I’ve owned a good number of synthetic bags and synthetic jackets. The synthetic performs well in wet conditions. The down bags and jackets all pack up much smaller than the synthetic ones and seem to regain their loft much easier and more quickly than the synthetic ones.

+1 for Ultralightoutdoorgear as a trusted retailer. Good gear, free postage over £15 and in my experience, they only say they have availability if they actually have stock.

Snugpack softie 9 Hawk, not down filled but extremely warm none the less. Before this a had an old hi-tec one for 30 years, started dropping to bits and a bigger pack size and nowhere near as warm as the Snugpack.

As previously mentioned down bags are a lot more compressible so if space is a premium maybe look for a cheaper one of those.
Synthetic down is a lot better nowadays than it used to be and a fair bit cheaper but packs bigger.
If it’s cold protection you need then a cheap foil type sheet under your sleeping mat can make a massive difference to staying warmer. Also a cotton sleeping bag liner can make a big difference too.
Snugpak are great bags. I have one of their older Softie ones. Can’t fault it.
