slight mod on the 1100 side pannels

As the 1100 went down on ice recently, i wanted to sort out the plastics.

Me n digger06 got to work sortin this out.

I already had a spare set of plastics , i bought a while ago so i gave these to digger06 to paint.

As digger06 is so ugly we had to cover his face to protect the innocent

side panel

ye have to remove the screen, head light, side panels, clocks (these come off in one and ye can just get to the bolt holding the light bar on) the light bar, then top part of the front fairing thingy...this is secured by the light bar sat on top and two bolts on the side wich go through the light bar, then ye can get to the bloody indicators, they are covered by the light bar, so this has to come off to change the stalks..

I wanted to alter the side panels , so i got some stainless grill of bryn
and fitted the grill to my side pannels

Tools ye need
good tin snips, ruler, pen, pliers, glue, and sillycunt sealant

1st offer yer grill up to the side panel , se what needs cutting off, then mark on the reverse (which has a plastic cover ye can draw on) the cut marks .

My idea was to fold the grill over the panel so it would sit on the inside.

2 use the original plastic grill as a template and cut around giving enough room to fold the sheet over


offer this up to yer panel and measure , and mark out the cutting marks for yer folding bits (see the blue line)



now cut yer grill to size following the curves of yer panel inner part


measure yer tabs on the grill to be cut and folded down


cut these and and put the longest part of the grill in the vice and use a hammer to fold the tabs over


the shorter parts , use a combination of good snipe nose or regular pliers (or wot ye have to hand) to do the job.
fold edges over to sit on the panel

Tell him to hurry up! ..... Oh and the light adjuster he made me works a treat and has had loads of use!... very handy when I am riding abroad and fully loaded

keep fitting back to panel, this takes quite a while, and needs reshaping to fit flush, the idea is it grips the panel , so ye wont need much glue


when yer happy glue the end bits to the panel and , when glue is dry put some sillycunt around the edges to smooth the grill off


both panels finished off


i have put some black plastic behind the stainless grill to give it a classy black n shiney look also the holes wer too big in the grill , this worked out lookin pretty good

i also cut the front beak down a few inch to make it look a little wider

over all the bike looks a lot better with the silver part painted red and matched to the tank and beak. the pics were taken at night so the colour isnt as bright , but ye get the idea

two small (marine) rotary switches on the side panel
for spot lights and driving lights, the spots arnt fitted yet
