THE HEROES RETURN

Well it's all over now and normality is creeping back into my life.

This is just a short note really to let you all know how it went a more detailed report will follow on completion.

Suffice to say the bike ran faultlessly and never missed a beat. Sadly though the rear suspension choice for the 3 short arses that were riding it wasn't up to the hammering it was to receive and this finally caught out Joe Twigg on the second from last day. He buried the bike in a dune and could not recover it after flatening the battery trying to start it. Fortunately we came along an hour or two later found him under a tree and got him on his way again only to cover 100 metres before he tried to fly off another small dune with a drop off 1.5 metres. The suspension bottomed heavily kicked back and put Joe on his arse. Sadly that was the end for Joe ans it turned out he fractured two vertibrae numbers 11 & 12 in his spine and we had to have him airlifted out to hospital. Thankfuly though he still has full use of all his limbs and he is hopefully going to make a full recovery.

The bike then had to be trucked out of the dunes as the rally had already moved ahead at a pace you would be hard pushed to believe (more anon) the bike was then transferred to the sweeper truck and that was the last we saw of it. The truck and another one got bogged down in a Chott (dried lake) on the following days stage and they are still there as far as I know. We await further information.

The engine pulled like a train and I didn't get it out of shape that I can recall, it would happily pull 5th and 6th gear in the sand at full chat and in fact was the only way you can actully ride sand and fesh fesh. You don't steer the bike with the bars they are only for holding onto. You as everyone here must know steer the bike through waiting the pegs and it works well. The last time I had to ride a bike in this maner was in the Falklands in 85 but the method and confidence soon returned.

I'm getting into this to much for the moment so will stop here. I will let you all know more in time. For the moment I have a train to catch in Calais for a job interview in Leicester tomorrow so adeu for now.

Heroes Legend the Alternative Paris to Dakar Rally

Ok folks I realise one file would be too big so I've cut it down into manageble chunks I hope..!! o I haven't even my cut down files are too big. Mods need some help here please otherwise this may never se the light of day on this site.

My average file size is around 3Kb including pictures do I really need to chop them down to the indicated 122.1 kb some are much bigger and there is 16 days worth to cover.

I will answer questions as and where I can of course should there be any. I hope it gives you an idea of what it is all about.

Archie, if you can upload your pics to a photo hosting site like Photobucket and then use links in your article that'll get around the 122.1kb limit.

I'm sure there will be a moderator along shortly

Are you talking about Movie files? Maybe you can upload them to google/youtube?
If you have a lot of photos, then it may be easier to bulk upload them to a specialist photo site (see http://www.ukgser.com/links/ - Photo Hosting section) and then Link to them in a post/thread.

Thanks for the information. I included the pictures in the right up so that it had some chronolgy with pictures.

Guess I'll have to try it the way I've been advised or none of you will get to read or question.

Thanks

Archie
