I live with my 19yr old son who is forever feckin' about with the settings on my PC, despite having his own on a wireless broadband link. His lastest effort seems to have wiped/hidden my carefully hoarded bookmarks and reverted to an older 'default' version. Is there any way of getting them back, or failing that password protecting my version of the browser so he cannot get at it ? I am using Firefox V1.5.0.1 :spitfire

If there is such a method please explain it SLOWLY.

maybe he's fecked up your pc in an unrelated way, then system restored it to an earlier point with out of date bookmarks.

you could try restoring it to a point when you know your bookmarks were right. tad risky though :nenau

twist the feckers arm 'til you get the truth.

when you have it sorted, back up your stuff properly ;)

Then set up the user accounts so that he can just about tell the time with your PC and nothing else!

And how exactly would I go about doing that ?

Can't tell you how to get them back as they are most likely gone, but you could look in My Computer, then Documents and Settings on your C-drive and see how many accounts there are.... even if you have only one, in there you'll see a folder called Favourites (on most XP systems the folder is prefixed with a star icon) and bingo, that's where they are saved.

If like me you have multiple accounts on the PC, check each one and look at the contents of the Favoutites folder... double click on it and have a look at the list of files.... you might get lucky....

In future to save any eff-ups, make a copy of the file and save it on the drive and call it a slightly different name like Saved Favourites.

Better still if you have a flash drive, bung it on there. I keep mine on one so I can surf at work and not have the buggers saved on the PC itself.... simply open for from the flash drive and they are relatively safe from prying little eyes and other tamperers.

I don't use Firefox any more as it seems to have a problem with XP Pro at work, so I use IE for favourites...
