Just looking for a bit of advice and suggestions!.
I'm not a big fan of top boxes on bikes, although I do have a BMW one on my "winter" bike - an old F650.
On my 1150GS though, I usually just strap a bag on the Reyno rack and make do with the BMW system cases. However on longer trips - Europe etc, I sometimes wish I had I top box, but I HATE the look and size of the BMW box for the 1150 - it's big, ugly & dated! - come to think of it, it matches the bike perfectly:eek:.
Anyway, does anybody have any suggestions for a smaller box for the 1150 - for example I would be more than happy if I could fit the box for the 650 range onto the 1150, I think that size of box is adequate:nenau - so something that sort of size.

Cheers...........................Grizzly:beer::beer:

Hi Grizz,

I'm exactly the same... Hate the feel of the bike with a topbox as it changes th CofG & is very noticeable to me. I found that HG did a topbox which was big enough for a single helmet & I mounted it onto an old pillion seat base. I don't often use it, but when I need it, it just clips into place. It means a mounting plate doesn't permanently ruin the rear (beautifully, ugly) looks of the bike &, having the box being right behind me also minimises the effect on the CofG, too... Total cost was about £40 - £29.95 for the box & £10 for a knackered pillion seat.

HTH,

Try searching for Pelican cases.Various sizes, strong and look like attache cases.Need to create a mounting plate though (i think).

i have the Metal Mule one - there's a smaller available too.

not cheap though

I have the same resistance to top boxes.

Try the Touratech (standard size) top box.

It will take a helmet but the best bit is the attaching system, the base doubles as a rear rack that you can strap a bag to with the box removed.

Single key to remove it from the bike makes it a doddle to leave it behind when you don't want it on the bike.

Cheap they ain't but I got mine second-hand from this very forum.

I've never understood the aversion to the humble top box, though you're spot on that the BMW one is f.ugly.

I use a Givi E46 and think it's great - looks good and carries a few important bits and pieces that I like to have on the bike (spare bulbs, first aid kit etc...).

top box

I had a givi from my 1100rt on my b1150 gs for about six years till the summer when a nice mexican truck driver destroyed it!. They just unclip when not required and it stood up to a lot of abuse and come in all sizes, reccomend them.

Happy Xmas to all.

Hi Grizz,
I have a H & B 'Journey' 35 L on mine, takes a helmet and can be removed in seconds and a bag strapped onto the frame that is left in place. Good piece of kit as it's small enough not to upset the balance of the 1150;s 'uglieness'.

Thanks For Info!!

Many thanks for info so far:thumb - it's always a help to hear about someone else's choices & experience's with top boxes - and pics of how they look in an 1150:thumb

Thanks and a Merry Christmas......................Grizzly:beer:
