As I was just about to shut down my computer last night the screen went black, all the icons disappeared and loads of hard drive failure warnings came up then a progam called Smart HDD started showing all the failures and directed me to a site that would " cure " them for a fee.
After much messing about I got online ( all the start icons on the desk top and start menu had gone ) and found out it was a virus that completly f*cks up your computer so you will pay the thieving scum to fix it.
After three hours I have managed to get rid of it but have still to try and get the desktop back to normal.
So if it happens to you I can recommend this site, it is quite a complicated fix but its all free.

This happened despite updating and running Microsoft Secuity Essentials every night and Malabytes Anti Malware every week and I have'nt been on any dodgy porn sites - recently.

Unfortunatly even a £2000 17-inch 2.4 GHz Macbook Pro with AMD Radeon HD 6770M wont play Skyrim nearly as well as my £850 17 inch MSI GX740 with Radeon HD5870.

Get thyself to an Apple shop. Or linux on that pc.

So you've never heard or seen all the problems with "Flashback" on millions of osX computers over the last few months?
You'd better use the Apple software update!
Don't believe all the crap about no viruses on Apple. These days you need to keep your Apple gear as well protected as Windows.

Agreed. Might still be worth dual booting with Ubuntu or Mint. Pretty much everything available for free. These days mine only gets booted into Windows for games or CAD.

I got hit too

I got hit with the same virus too. Took quite a few hours to get it cleaned off and back to normal, but there is free software out there you can do it with. Under no circumstances buy the tool the virus is trying to convince you to buy. It's just a scam and won't clean your machine!
