Its bound to be a simple fix, once I work out where the problem is.

I have a 94 R80RT and when I sit there at 70/80, I can smell petrol and my left boot stinks of it. Any other speed, no problem, it dont drip, float bowl gasket is ok. So what am I missing

The rubber petrol pipes have been replaced, diaphragm. Where shall I look next?

Is the fuel tap okay ? Thinking logically, it can only be from the tank, fuel pipe or carb.

I remember being told that sometimes fuel can go a little way up the air pipe (from the air box to the carb).

Could this be the case with yours? I know my RT leaks fuel out of the air pipe sometimes at rest.

I wonder how it does that ? The air from the intake travels in the other direction i.e. to the carb inlet ?
Do you mean where the airbox pipe joins onto the carb inlet ?

My current theory is the float as there is a little overflow in the float bowl. The faster I go the higher the level until it overflows. Just a theory so could be utter bollox

If the float heights are set correctly then it shouldn't over flow. Assuming no wear, fuel shut off should occur when the floats are parallel
with the carb body. You can adjust the "tang" on the float assembly to ensure that the fuel stops flowing when adjusted correctly i.e. when
parallel with the carb body.
As the fuel trickles down into the float bowl, I cannot see how it can go up into the air inlet pipe ?

Are you sure it's not the fuel hoses?

Just a thought-Try some talk powder over the pies and carb to see if there is any leak while statonary which will give you an indicator.

I replaced the cloth braided pipes on my RS and they leaked due to cracking within about a year or so.

If intake valves were not closing tightly could back pressure be directed up to the carb and force it to spit a bit of fuel out through some seam or gasket area of carb?
