Snow today

Variable weather

at 300m it is 15c here in Austria today and drizzly. I could well imagine it is snowing up at the Grossglockner

Here in Malta (Austria) at 850m it's 25c and sunny , don't know about the Grossglockner, they have taken the weather forcast off their website. When we complained they told us that the took it off because people complained that it was not always accurate. I thought that was normal for weather forcasts the world over!

A family has just arrived here from Holland and they tell us that Germany was awash, heavy rain all the way here. Local forcast here is for some rain tomorrow and then dry and warm. With luck we will be taking a group of Hungarian bikers into Slovenia and Italy on Sunday. Watch out for the videos on our new website www.hochalmspitze.com I've mastered switching the camera on and off but am still not very good at the editing stage.

Think I need to pay you a visit in Kärnten. Linz has been grey and drizzly these last few days. That said it looks like it will improve on Sunday.

Lets hope not its not here to stay just yet, its only August!!!!!!

Just over 5 weeks we will be riding through:thumb2

We've just got back from the Alps and had a wet miseable day travelling from Chur in Switzerland to Arabba in the Dolomites via the Lenzerheide, Fluella, Ofen, Umbrail (horrible pass to ride uphill) and the Stelvio and it was as low as 3.5 degrees in some places.

Set off from Arabba in scorching sunshine the next day, but it was snowing and down to 3 degrees when we went over the Grossglockner to Kaprun. After that we had a week of really good weather bar some minor showers and it was low 20's over the Grossglockner and mid-high twenties elsewhere (32 degrees at one point)

We did Stelvio the other week(The beer hunter, STUJW70) and myself. It was showing 1.5 degrees C on the top and snowing then. Visibilty was down making the descent in fog,and snow with a full GS somewhat nerve racking.
in my opinion Stelvio is over rated, there are smaller passers that i found much better. ie Silvretta, Reschen pass is also nice with sweeping curves and good road material. My favourite was the Splugen pass (Oh and the B 500 in Germany)

+1 for The Spugen. Went over in early July and it was totally free of traffic and absolutely beautiful, by far the prettiest pass I have ever used and that includes many in the Alps, Sierra Nevada, Pyrenees and Picos

snow stelvio

stayed in Livigno last thusday and snow was right down , stelvio loads snow and then heavy rain all day, lets get out of here
