So, i'm already to copy the pictures to disc

I'm all ready to copy the morocco pictures to a disc, for the "do one on the run" tossers.

And it's not working - have i bought the wrong things, DVD-R discs

I put in a CD-R disc and it copies no trouble. So i'm assuming i've bought the wrong things .

What are DVD-R discs used for ?

I've a DVD slot where you put the DVD films in i'm guessing it's not the same thing

Making some assumptions.....

To write cd's you need and cd writer on your pc.
Same for dvd's. If you dont know whether you have a dvd writer then chances are you dont have one.
You are able to READ (not write) dvd's cos that's the sort of drive you have.

You've probaby got a cd writer that can read dvd's (read only like films)
i.e. DVD/dc rw type drive, or two drives, both of which can read cd's and one of the 2 can write cd's and the other can read dvds

Anyway, go and exchange the writable dvd's for writable cd's and you'll be fine.

Thats what i thought after reading through all my " how to work a computer" books - i didn't realise there was a difference.

Numpty, your supposed to burn your pics on a CD, post it to Bill and he will put everyones pics on DVD's and then post one to each of us
