So the bike needs.

Has it had the rear wheel flange done? If not you might be able to twist their arm on the labour-- get the flange done at the same time. Some of the work is common to both jobs.

What does the rear flange do?

Really fed up with bmw at the moment.

Had my car in there last week for a service, They phoned me and said whoever fitted your last tyre has snapped of the wheel nut from over tightening it going to be £300 pound to fix it, wheel hub etc

Luckily my girlfriend keeps all receipts so she checked it out and it happened to be done at the dealership.

I got a good discount on stuff that was done, but beside the point.

The dealer has an obligation to advise you when various bits get below a level. It doesn't mean you have to replace them and I would just say thank you very much for your advice and take the bike away. Remember their hourly rates are high and they will charge you full retail for parts unless you ask for discount.

They aren't tripping you off but are working to different wear parameters us normal people.

Motobatt batteries are about £50 or Yuasa BMW spec about the same so if you need one, get one of the net.

If you do need discs and pads, I use Ferodo's from Steptoe and get excellent wear and stopping power. Decent price as well:thumb

I'd advise you to keep away from BMW dealerships both car and bike, they seem to be taking you for some kind of mug mate. Why not try an independent instead, so long as they are registered for VAT and use genuine BMW parts you are covered. If out of warranty, you can use whatever parts you like.

I replaced my rear disk on my previous 2004 GS and used a Galfer wavy disk which I thought was expensive at £79 inc vat (along with a set of Steptoes ferodo pads instead of the ridiculously expensive BMW Brembo items) .

The linked braking causes these bikes to eat the rear brake. But don't fall for the legal limit excuse. Mine was well below the BMW wear limit but passed the MOT no problem. The tester commented the disc was worn but said there was no sign cracking at the disc holes so carry on. I asked if cracks are more likely on old discs. He has seen cracked discs that are well within limits so all should be checked regularly.

A part solution is HH sintered pads in the front brakes and standard pads in the back brake. HH need less brake force for the same slowing effect so the bike delivers less force to the back brake so it wears slower. HH sintered in the back with organic in the front is a bad move because it over brakes the back wheel.
