Can we answer the following questions which are of relevance to the "marcus' 1200GS replacement...

The new 1200GS

Does it have a stronger battery?

Is the fuel pump relay thing redesigned?

Is the final drive any stronger or dedesigned?

Has the top box connection been redesigned?

Has the neutral sensor been changed?

Has the rear brake sensor been changed?

Any change to the steering lock mechanism?

Not taking the piss, genuinely want to know . . . . . . :thumb2

R1200GS at the NEC Bike Show 2007

I looked at the 2008 R1200GS at the show and what I could see and what they told me was the following:

Tank profile and fuel cap redesigned
Front forks gold not silver
cylinder barrels black
Electronic suspension adjustment as option

As for what you've listed...I don't think any of it has been fixed. It looks identical!

er........:o

THey've just refused to repair my bike under warranty for broken steering lock, saying it was attempted theft.

I say "rubbish it was moved from one garage to another" or something like that

Dispute ongoing.

The only thing that's more disappointing than the reliability is the responsiveness of BMW......

My steeringlock was broken too,
It took them 5 days to repair it! They couldn't get it out..
Because that's what it's made for ..

Luckily it was all fixed under guarantee..

It did happen to some other gs'ers here.

And for the new gs.....it's very tempting but probably not fixed on these points.
Next week I'll have a talk with my dealer about these issues.

sorry I'm feeling a bit bitter and twisted about stuff today:thedummy

AFAIK, yes, the top box mounting plate and top box mount have been redesigned; the box was strengthened around end '05 (which sorted my probs. but not everybodys) and then a complete redesign for '07.

The final drive has defo. changed (i.e. it now has a drain plug). As to any other changes/improvements to the drive :nenau

For me, the biggest improvement has to be the ditching of servos. I've managed to build up a (cheap) collection of replacement parts of all the usuaul suspects from ebay (including a final drive) but I dread to think of the cost should my servos go wappy

Why not write to MBW saying you want to buy a new GS but part of the buying criteria is knowing the score on all the points you raised - would be interesting to see what response you get (if any).
