I went out on the bike yesterday to find this pub (no GPS you see so getting lost in the dark is much easier for me ). Found it no problem and then went off down the single track road along the waterway on the way back home. Top laugh down a very bumpy road, though I might just play it safe tomorrow night in the dark and stick to the main roads - no sense of adventure (geddit ???)

I wondered about that too, and I really was going to follow it all the way down to Littleport but hooked a right and bimbled off to Welney instead

Mapsource says it is 9.7 miles to the Sluicegates from the turn down at the A10, so I guess it's name is correct. Have done it once on a cold crisp Sunday morning - good ride.
