I need to change the final drive oil seal and I'll be using Steptoe's guide in the FoaK. He mentions the need for a deep 36mm socket. How deep is deep? I know why it needs to be deep but before I start trawling around the shops I'd like to know the correct socket length in the first place.
Oh, and before anyone mentions it; I know I need to get a special tool to remove the retaining ring. BMW are charging £60 for this. Does anyone know where I can get one cheaper or is £60 acceptable. As CW's are wanting £200 to replace the seal I reckon £60 is a good investment especially if I need to do the job again in the future (likely).
