It's coming up to that time of year again, when Santa leaves pairs of socks in my, er sock...............;)

However, this year my bike socks are in urgent need of replacement, in fact they are so old I've forgotten what make/where bought.

So, any recommendations for really good bike socks?

I thank you!

Gerry Huxtable is your man to contact. I spotted him wearing 'proper bikers socks' (probably TT knowing him;) ) they were labelled L and R  with, according to Gerry, padding in all the right places.

For left and right? So that's why ladies knickers have C & A on them?

Ralphy - Outdoor socks from local shop. Boulters in Banwell have a really good selection. Or the Gorge Outdoors in Cheddar.

Can you get electric ones? Need some electric ones for the wife, prefferably ones that don't need to be connected to the bike.
Something like this? http://www.nauticalia.com/uk-info/detail/battery-heated_gloves_&_socks/6497__L.html

Fishing tackle shops are also good source of things like this.

Outdoor Pusuits socks beware

I chose what looked & felt superb from an walkers shop & yep they're very comfortable but toes got v. cold - on examination there was a row of fine vents just over toes to let sweat (& warmth) out - so, fine for when I'm off up Scafell or the likes but no bl**dy good for winter bikin'

I like my Skiing socks for comfort and warmth...they have a bit of extra padding on the pressure points (mainly heel, soles and shins) that you get whjilst skiing but they coincide nicely with the hard front protector of a decent M/C boot...plus they're obviously designed to be warm.

(and they're fairly thin too as long as you don't go for the extra thick pile ones)

For wet weather, you can't go far wrong with Sealskins, or for a cheaper option (long sealskins are around 30 quid) go to your local army surplus and get some ex nato goretex socks for 10-15 quid.

;)

I have both the army sort and Sealskinz, I have found the army ones dry but cold the sealskins were ok untill the temp dropped below 3deg .
I have been looking for heated insoles or footbeds, are the cheapo £10 ones anygood or a waste of time.
