Thought it might be useful to post my alternative to hard panniers on a R1200GSA. Having used the standard hard panniers up until recently when an off left one of the panniers somewhat misshapen I thought I'd try something different that meant I didn't have to have the hassle of refitting the bulky/heavy pannier frame every time I needed a bit more carrying capacity.

The bags are Held Omera 14L-20L waterproof bags that I picked up on ebay at £80 for the set. I knocked up a small inconspicuous frame to keep the right hand bag off the rear wheel using 6mm mild steel rod. The bags are attached under the rear seat with large Velcro straps. I attached a self adhesive Exhaust / Engine aluminium reflective heat shield sheet to the back of the left hand panier to protect from exhaust heat.

It doesn't have the carrying capacity or the protection of the hard panniers but it sure is more convenient and doesn't look too bad.

They look great and a lot more flexible than the all or nothing alloy ones.
