I've just had a rebate from the taxman :clap (first time ever!) and if I don't spend it quickly while I feel flush it will disappear into the black hole of general household finances. I'm thinking of replacing my trusty Quest with a Zumo for use on the bike and in a car. I've spent the last 2 hours browsing various forums but still have a few questions, so can anyone tell me please

- can autozoom be turned off on the Zumo? I like to use a fixed scale
- can it be set to show 2D maps?
- has anyone tried the GTM12 or GTM21 traffic receivers? Which one works best?
- Is the traffic info accurate enough to be of any use?

Thanks
TC

There's no option to turn autozoom off (when routing is active). In general it does seem to stick at your preferred zoom except when coming right up to a turn.

You have a choice of 3D, track up 2D, or north up 2D. After trying the others, on a bike I prefer north up.

There's no traffic service in Australia so I can't tell you about that. I used the builtin one in a 318i in Germany (not a Zumo) and it was pretty amazing.

I'm generally pretty happy with the Zumo.

The reception quality of the GTM12 and GTM21 is identical. Take the GTM12, because that is the only one compatible with car AND motormount.

As to traffic quality: That depends only on the quality of the input. With my (Dutch) experience, I find it helpfull, but you have to keep an eye on it to see if suggested detours are realy usefull: There is no traffic info beyond the motorways!

So it might suggest to go off the motorway into the just as cramped city.

If I understand correctly then, if I want to use one in the car and also have the option to use it on the bike, then it has to be the GTM12. :nenau

Can any one tell me what the coverage is like now? Is it worth getting? I travel between Portsmouth, London (not too often though) and the midlands mainly.

Cheers,
Bob

Hi Bob, I replied to your other thread about the GTM12. I live just outside the M25, and mostly use my car (and Zumo) on M-ways. In my experience, the traffic info signal coverage seems to be good from the South coast up to the Manchester area. I haven't tried it further north... It will only give traffic data for major trunk routes though. As I said on the other thread, it has saved me on from running into major delays (45min+) on a few occasions, so I reckon it is worth the money for this alone.

Cheers Tomcat. :beerjug: I've got one on order and will give it a run out in the car later this month:thumb2

AFAIK You cannot turn it off, but if you zoom right in, then back out to the zoom function that you require, then it will not zoom out any further , but I think that it may zoom in.

All settings are re set when you reboot
