Something missing...

I have a 94 model 1100 and when accelerating hard something misses or slips. just a momentary jerk then service as usual.

It can happen in any gear. I thought it might have been the spark plugs but now the bike has been fully serviced and its still happening.

I'm now thinking it may be coming from the final drive.

Any suggestions?

Before the gearbox mods in 98, the 1100GS geabox can play up. It MIGHT be the gears trying to 'jump' out of gear. Does it happen under load ?. It feels like the rear shock is playing up when it happens, or you've hit a wet patch. The rear end compreses and un-loads as the drive to the rear is lost momentarily as it jumps, then goes back in gear. IF it is this, it WILL need a new g/box. Good luck.

The 94' model GS had a design problem with their input shaft spring. If it feels like it sort of re-engage then it is the spring that's playing up.
The modification on this either work or not.
Personally if you stuck with a 94 model gearbox problem try and find a suitable 97 model onwards gearbox and your problems should be sovled.

Drain your final drive oil and check if there is small metal particals coming out, if so get them to replace the bearings on that asap. If it is clean and the symptoms above you need to check the gearbox.

The final drive oil was Really black and smelly when I changed it so hopefully it will be the lesser of the 2 repairs....

There's a guy near Leicester that mods and rebuilds BM gearboxes and does a fantastic job at a realistic price. Unfortunately I can't remember his name but if you PM Rob Farmer he'll tell you, in fact if he reads this I'm sure he@ll post details here

my bike does the same....but i have a nice gearbox ready to go in thanks to the very nice man in the shirt with the camera like a brick.
