I've just been browsing through the most recent threads and the over whelming impression is just a little negative. I returned yesterday from a week in the South of France covering 2500 miles with not a single problem. The conditions at times were terrible but the bike just made it easy. On arriving we unloaded the luggage and had a superb scratching bike on those sunny twisties. Now back home after a clean the only visible signs of the journey are a slightly squared off tyre and a very slight drop in the oil level.
Just wanted lift the mood a little and confirm that the 12GS is a really very good motorcycle indeed.

8k miles and hasn't missed a beat, I must have a faulty one  Seriously I have to agree with Matmos, my bike has been superb from day one. Had the new software loaded at 6k prior to my trip around iberia ( I must admit with a little trepidation ) but the bike performed faultlessly. Good to see some positive feedback from buyers. An excellent bike.

Despite my problems and worries about the reliabilty I too have to agree overall it is a cracking bike. Did my first ride starting just north of Nuernberg at the dealer and rode back to Madrid and loved every bit of it. I hope my problem is a one off and that I will get many years and KMS of happy riding.
Still have a huge grin on my face everytime i get on it, look at it or think that i have one in my garage.

Great to see an upbeat post, I was beginning to think there was something wrong with me as I'm delighted with my GS. Only 3,500 miles so far and dare I say it hasn't missed a beat so far! This is one hell of a bike, that still surprises me with it's handling and sheer fun to ride.

No bike is perfect....but this one is my best yet. 4300 miles...no problemos. Happy owners are rarely motivated to get on the internet and say how great their bike is....unhappy owners want to tell the world. Nothing wrong with that...just something to keep in mind when trying to guage a product via forums.

Definitely the best motrcycle I have ever owned, biggest problem I have found is extreme wanderlust has set in since I got it :D

This is the wrong forum

I love the bike (even though the fuel pump has gone twice). But you must realise this forum is only for those who want to moan. If you want to praise the bike, please go elsewhere.

:D :D :D :D :D

Mine broke down on the 1st day.
Done 9,500 miles since, there's not another Bike I would buy :)

It's early days with my rock red R12 but having previously owned an R65, R80, 2x R100RT's an R80Gs a K100 , a K1100Rs and an R1100 RT over a total period spanning approx 26 years i find it a pleasure to ride, it always makes me smile, makes me think about my riding which has got to be good and, questionable plastic fitments aside i think it's a great little bike even though it's not any where as overengineered build quality wise as some of the older bikes i've mentioned.

i do think BMW have scrimped a little on the quality of the finished bike and omission of a hugger and that pathetic front mudguard makes me wonder where the price tag comes from but overall it's been a breath of fresh air in terms of enjoying my motorcycling, i'm always looking for an excuse to ride the damned thing. :D :D :D :D :D
