So, this w/e the lovely Amanda and I will be staying just inland from Whitby in a little luvsnug to get away from the usual for a few days.

Mostly we'll be holed up in a warm comfy place but it'd be nice to pop out somewhere (4 wheels) for the day so what's the best that God's own country can offer a luved up couple? :)

Any recommendations for a nice day out much appreciated, ta.

Andres

Goathland, for kitch

Sandsend and Robin Hood's Bay for superb and quirky, but quaint fishing villages

Take the Steam Train across the NY Moors from Whitby to Pickering (stopping, maybe at Goathland), for a romantic and unforgettable trip through the National Park

Whitby Abbey, up the steps and then F&C's at the Magpie

Hutton le Hole, via Rosedale Abbey is also nice for a wander, as is Helmsley - then head a few miles to Rievaulx Abbey ruins, in my all time favourite village

Or even Thornton le Dale

The choice is yours...

Staithes is nice as long as not too many tourists about.

Robin hoods bay - but will be busy with Tourists.

If weather is good and not too much low mist a drive up onto moors is always pretty nice - Rievaulx Abbey?

Thanks all, we'll explore at least one of those options.............funnily enough JB we're only a mile out of Goathland :)

Oh and Redrick will defo give that chippy a go as whilst I've never had bad chips in Whitby I've never had really good ones either and always feel a bit disapointed.............

It is a posh chippy with a bar and all ! boards on the wall telling what ship caught the days fish and when

Well, we had an ok time I suppose, bits of Yorkshire are I'll grudgingly admit ok.................. ;)

Actually, we were very taken with the N Yorks moors. It's not a part of Yorkshire I know well (apart from Whitby and the surrounding coast) and it was so desolate in places - perfect!

There were quite a few very easy/graded tracks across the high moors and I could see no vehicular restrictions. I'd love to come back on the KTM in the spring/summer for a proper explore - any idea if there are legal trails up there given it's a National Park?

Amyhow, we went to most of the recommendations so thanks for your time gents, here's a couple of piccies............... :beerjug:

Breakfast sorted on the woodburner..........actually, all meals were sorted on the woodburner :)

And there was me thinking it was Lunduners that regard everybody with suspicion............. :D

An old ironworks at the top of some chimney or other seemed a good place for windswept luved up photos......

Some old building recommended by JB (and rather splendid it was too!)

A very lonely tree and snow storm on the top of the moors...........

Good snaps, and I do like Rosedale Chimney:thumb2 They used to do a hill climb there in the back 'n white days. I would have loved that.

And I used to live in the lodge house at the Abbey, before it was turned into the visitor's centre. It was brilliant in Goth Week, when they are all around the abbey at night. Very atmospheric.

There are not so many trails legally accessible anymore, but we managed to put together a lazy weekend of GS/Tourance friendly easy trails and nice lanes from York/malton and around the NYM in November 2013. Camping above Goathland was boldly cold tho!
