Has anyone any info on how to use this feature on Sony DV Cameras, the socket allows reomote triggering of the record function on the camera, it replicates the record button on the camera when using on a tripod or somewhere else.

If a toggle switch were made to fit somewhere on the bars then the video could be started and stopped remotely while in motion just at the flick of a switch, the qestion is the socket looks like a regular 3.5mm mono jack socket but the literture is not clear, anyone had any experience triggering a video camera remotely.

Thanks in advance.

The Lanc socket is used widely in freefall videography where the camcorder is mounted on the skydivers helmet making switching on the device and starting the recording a little difficult.

A common remote connection called Cameye, allows not only the simple switching to be done remotely, but perhaps more importantly, it provides an LED reporting light of the status. With just one button and LED you can sactivate and see teh status of start or stop recording. Revive the camcorder from it's idle-to-standby state, or send it to sleep from standby. The LED will warn of tape end and low battery too.....marvellous kit have a look here:

I'm nothing to do with them other than a very happy customer of many years and both their models. I'm happy to try and answer any further query you may have on this one.

Thanks Eddy

Many thanks for that info, from there I have found they make a switch on a 1 metre cable with the LED built into the switch that will velcro neatly inside the handguard and Iv'e found the UK dealer, acompany called Drivedata www.drivedata.com who have these for £39.00, just the job.

Many thanks, I hope you enjoy your new bike.

Oh heck!!!

All this means Jimbo will be filming our every move when we go out !!!

If the video setup is going to The Borders at Easter Jim I think there ought to be a supplement on your room cost!!!!

Any one want to come along and be filmed?

Excellent thread this, just received my bullet camera from HERE It works perfect. Went for the option 3 kit with all the bits, fine, but you need to be able to control the camera from a single point rather than keep pulling it out of the tankbag Now this thread was what I was looking for. Ordered the Lanc 1.4 controller from RFConcepts cos its cheaper, infact the cheapest I could find with next day delivery. Going to try and video all the events I am attending this year. Anyone with advice or tips I'm keen to learn.

RF concepts prices don't include VAT but Drivedata's do, I don't know what Drivedata's shipping is though, I thought you'd have an eye on this, it makes life much easier, all you need now is Adobe Premiere Pro V1.5 and your'e in business.

This is all thanks to Eddy

P.S. the microphone you have is really, really sensitive, my mate Malc has experimented and he finds that if the mic is set in a 35mm film tub full of foam and left in the tank bag it works fine at picking the engine sound up, its so sensitive that if its too close to the camera it will pick up the camera motor which i can't actually hear when its working.

Also, its a mono source but when the data is imported into your editing suite it will produce a stereo wavefile, this will only have data on one channel so when you connect the mic connect it to both left and right audio inputs so you get a stereo audio track.

Have you tried fixing the mike inside your helmet to allow a commentary type of thing. I have used it in this way in freefall, and with a 120mph wind (which you have to bare in mind is coming up under the chin, rather than face on) the mike was sensitive enough to pick up my words, and directional enough not to be ruined by wind noise. I reckon you'd possibly pick up the engine in the back ground too.

I don't know what type of footage you want to capture but the flexibility allowed using a robust and waterproof option like the Bullet Cam means you can mix and match some pretty whacky angles.
