My 79 r80/7 appears to have had a side stand mod, the left hand foot peg is a cast piece from which a side stand attaches. The right side (offside) has a shiny alloy piece,

Both appear straight forward enough but when looking down on the bike the footpegs are not directly opposite each other ( the shiny one is longer)

I can see the original side stand 'peg' on the front of the frame and don't think anything was originally attached (when I got it)

The offset in the pegs is normal and matches the offset in the cylinders.

Your sidestand (attached to the footpeg) is a surefooot and replaces the kamikaze original stand.

PS

You're going to have fun cleaning that rear brake pivot out :D

Before they screwed up nitromours it was great for cleaning holes and small parts of powder coating by using a small brush, unfortunately its now virtually useless since they "Improved" the formula.

Some of those brake lever pivot holes have a replaceable bush in the hole, others are straight into the steel.

Looks like its coming together a treat. Your engine looks very clean and you even have the spring on the clutch arm :thumb2

At this stage its worth checking the clutch release bearing. The bearings have a habit of wearing flats on the rollers, start skidding and then fail. Much easier to check them while the bikes apart. Do you remember if yours has needles or ball bearings?

wire brush in a drill bit, it was easier while it was out! - itll go dull within a week no doubt!

as for clutch bearing is that the bearing on the clutch arm? i cant say i paid too particular a notice to it ( you may see a pattern emerging with not noticing stuff!):blast

I think a sure foot is what I need ,after I have sorted the bloody wires out ,man am I ever clueless at electricory

By the time I get to the electrics they will have magically repaired themselves in the box and refitting will be a doddle!!!! Oh hang on ..... No they will be a rusty mess that's no use for owt!
