SOS-how to change brakepads on F650GS?

Hello Guys,

Hope you are all well and enjoying the summer and winding roads.
I am looking for express help and some advise on how to change both (rear and front) brakepads on my moto.
My BMW dealer let me down few times and i do not trust them anymore...sadly said.
I will be attempting to do it my self, as i managed to find all the needed tools for it. Dont have manual, only my brother who is abroad, and the only way he can show me is via Skype webcam
He suggested to ask you guys, the experts on the road.....so i am calling for some assistance.
Crazy notion.....if any of you live near Crawley, West Sussex and is on ride out on friday or sunday and could possibly stop to assist that would be great too

I suggest you check the Chaingang website for any techical information on 650 singles, in particular http://faq.f650.com/FAQs/Brake_Pad_FAQ.htm. The BMW manual is available on the web in a few places too if you do a search.

Torque, if you can get to Cheshire, I'll change them for you, or at least you'll change them and I'll call the shots. I have full workshop facilities (when all my bikes are outside) for us to use.

Failing that, there is a thread in the 650 section giving a link to a free workshop manual pdf file that you can download/save/print.

Sussex, Hmm!

I'm inclined to say the same, but looking at your location you might be better off going round to your local bike shop (any will be able to do the job for you) with your new pads in your hand and asking them to pop them in for you.

If everything is ok with your brakes it'll only take them half an hour all in.

You dont even need to remove the wheel. Have a search on google vids or on you tube. There are some vids i think.

Thank you all for the advise and suggestions....i have successfully changed my brake pads.
With moral support of my flat mate...supplying cups of coffee to keep me calm
And videos from my brother.
It was easier then i thought.

Quite eager to change and fix anything now...

PS- when you change brake pads - does the level of break
fluid in that little transparent container near back wheel come up at all, or it should stay the same...and should it change colour...like a wee bit darker if it's been pushed back up?
Mine came up to the max level and it's bit dark...and i dont know if it's should be like this, or if i put chain oiler top up into the wrong pipe ....i know, disaster. =0)

The level will rise because the new pads are thicker than the old(worn) ones so they push the pistons back into the calipers more which displaces the fluid up into the resevoir.
If the fluid is dark it's probably time to change it,how old is the bike?
