Just leaving my village, went for the overtake and when along-side the car.....bang a bag of spanners.:(

Engine runs ok, gears do nowt and when freewheeling it sounds like metal bits are clattering about where they shouldn't be..
1200gs, 56 reg with 32k

RAC en-route now and will take to to Roy Gardener for a look-see....:tears:tears & :tears

Unlucky fella....I hope theres not to much damage done (don't sound to good though:()

Do you have the extended warranty?

Looks like the final drive now I've had a better look :(. Bike on main stand, when spinning the rear wheel by hand the drive shaft is not turning at gearbox end, and the fd feels and sounds clattery. When in gear, drive shaft at gearbox end spins...wheel doesn't. It sounded 'interesting' at @60

Do you have the extended warranty? ......no, bike is well out of warranty

Maintenance....done by BMW to 18k, then by myself...and I also drop back the fd and change its oil every 6k, grease the drive shaft etc. Regularly check wheel for play....no play now either...just clattery

First trip out...no, the bike is in use all the time (apart from Dec, Jan and Feb), doing about 12k/yr and with the exception of a failed ignition swith was not giving any trouble...

How does my bike know its bonus time...:tears

Call out truck her...gotta go

Just when I thought it could'nt get any worse...came home for a sandwich...no bread in the hoose...you take them in...give em yer surname...:blast

If the insides of the FD had detonated I'd be surprised if the wheel turned OK, How about the UJ on the FD end of the shaft, is that still in one piece?

Will watch the fd on ebay...thanks for that

Yeah could be the UJ. I'd usually have a go at this myself, I've had the driveshaft in & out a few times now - but up to my eyeballs with jobs at home that I need to crack on with* so its making its way to RGM now on the back of a lorry.
Is UJ failure common...? and no I have not searched yet...

* get conservatory build finished before Easter so I can head off round Scotland:D

Well I had not searched then as I was a tad busy, hence why I put I had not searched yet...before someone said the search button is my friend.
But I have searched since...does that count:thumb2
