Hi - I am new to this forum so please be gentle.

I am trying to find a supplier outside of BMW who can supply a rear brake disc for a 1200GS Adventure (07). I have tried a few with no luck. Any help greatly appreciated.

I recently bought a Galfer wavy rear disk for my 2004 R1200GS from Nippy Normans for £99 plus postage.:nenau

EBC does them for about £70.

So now does Steppers (you can find him on the 1150 forum)

Dno't wast your money on EBC rear disc

DON't bother with the EBC disc. you'll be wasting £70 I have one fitted to my bike, it's the worst thing I've ever put on a bike.

I did 31000mls on the original disc 'which was bad enough' and have done a further 17000mls on the EBC disc. the pads supplied with it have quite literally eaten the disc. It is full of deep grooves the like of which I have only seen on a bike with well over 100'000mls on the clock (a 1984 BMW RT).
Also the disc is so badly corroded/rusty that the bads stick if the bike is left for more that two days, and won't then clean up in 50 mls of use.

20 years ago I found EBC products to be very poor, and vowed I'd never use them again.
It was out of desperation and not wanting to replace my IMHO prematurely worn out BW rear disc that I decided to risc the EBC disc. After all if the company is still going after all this time the must surly have improved their products, you'd think 'wouldn't you?'

I would never recommend anyone putting anything branded with EBC'S on anything.

Steptoe was given a 1200 rear disc to get copied. So it's worth dropping him a PM to see if anything came of it.

Val.

Interesting to find someone else who’s had problems with none stainless steel discs, with cast iron discs I had rusty water thrown all over the front of the bike, pad sticking and the pads corroding their shape in to the discs causing brake pulsing and another set of knackered discs, I vowed never to buy anything but SS again!

I have an EBC disc on my GS. Its done 20,000 miles and I am very happy with it. No signs of the scoring/corrosion that other users have mentioned or of the brakes binding if left standing for a couple of days:nenau.

I'll be very happy to put another on when/if this one wears out.

Steve
